had a play with one today, it was in front of me so he put the foot down, it seemed a quick car but i had the edge, road wasnt suitable to over take as there was a lot of twist and turns but i was able to reach his bumper. if there was a proper straight i would have got by him, at one point the acceleration seemed even between 60 to 95 but then i started catching up again. what bhp are these? are they anygood? it was old but in great nick.

You have no idea how sad these threads make me when I realise my new car is now in the same league speedwise as an old chavalier.

Makes me want to go and buy my old Impreza back. Even worse I got skinned by a Renault 21 Turbo (modded with a real toerag driving it)last week and the anniversary has sat in the garage ever since.

Still at least I'm more comfortable on a long run now I suppose.[:(]

The BHP for the cavalier is 150BHP and the 0-60 is about 8.5, so a TDI with about 180BHP and a very high torque figure of 334, should have had no probs.

These things (Ren 21 Turbo) can be tuned to super high power to weight ratios, so I don't think you should be to up set. I think I know who's car looks better !! it begins with VW and ends in Golf.[:)]

Were you actually bumper to bumper, or a safe distance between him without him accelerating away from you?

If the former, i hate to be a killjoy, but people like you are reckless.

it was safe, i wasnt at his bumper but i was pointing out i could have been at his bumper cos i could gain on him anytime.

My mate used to have one of these and let me tell you that they are a sheep in wolf's clothing, especially if it's the red top head on the engine!!

Very fast!!

Wasn't the red top head a Cosworth engineered item?

i dont think they were that quick, half the time i was behind my foot wasnt floored, just cruising was keeping up with him! he would have the odd good spurt of power and that was it really.

Back in the days the Caviler and Astra 16V were very fast, but by todays standards then yes they are not that quick.

You have got to remember that you have an extra 30bhp over the Cav and 150+ extra torque, so to your car it probaly seemed slow..

I had a Cavalier 4x4 turbo for 3 years and it was one of the best cars i've owned.

Only problem was Vauxhaul dealers had no idea if you got a problem.

204bhp 6 speed box, great motorway crusier.

Wish I could get one for a weekend car again.
