Fellow Oil Burners.......please can you tell me what make of diesel you guys find gives the MAXIMUM perfomance and Fuel Economy??? Is there one brand of diesel that REALLY stands head and shoulders above the rest??

I've always used ESSO.

Tried BP ultimate for a few weeks a didn't notice a difference in performance/MPG - not worth the extra IMO!

Personally I just use Shell Diesel Extra, haven't found it to be more economical but the car runs better on it.

Just filled up at normal texaco garage for while, then had cause to try Shell diesel extra - never went back, the change with Shell was amazing. Never tried anything else since in the last 6 months or so.

Sling a bit of millers diesel plus in now and again usually in a full tank prior to a long journey and hoofing it a bit to keep it clean. Some folk may disagree with the millers plus with a PD engine, but I have had no probs.

I've filled up with Tesco's for the first time since owning the car, so it'll be interesting to see whether it makes any significant difference.

(I was tempted by the 5p / litre off voucher I got with my shopping on Saturday!!)

I ususally only use Shell Diesel Extra though.

I have tried BP (Normal Diesel), Esso and Texaco iirc

Shell for me, BP Ultimate made no difference. An Audi stealer told me VAG recommends Shell Diesel though not sure what to think of that.

Josh, I'd rather put in used chip fat than Tesco Diesel []

Shell Diesel Extra for me... always notice the difference if i get caught short somewhere and have to use another brand - noticebly the noise and smoothness!

For me its BP Ultimate & a shot of millers diesel power plus every time.

If I cant get Ultimate I just add an extra 1/2 shot of millers, seems to be working fine.

I've been using Millers addy for about 15k & never had any problems.

Just watch out if your using BP UL, super UL pump handle is blue also, I did fill up with S-UL by mistake[!], but are refunding the cost of draining the tank[]

Always used Esso until last month when my local Esso closed. Since then I've used Shell diesel extra and BP normal diesel. Not noticed any difference except that BP were 2p a litre dearer!

Always use esso diesel but i did try shell extra and noticed a difference mainly with acceleration & less noise. Only tend to use esso now.

Interesting.... - If your used to the supermarket stuff, definately try the Shell diesel Extra - near Broadway pub be your closest??

Let us know if you notice the difference matey - I certainly did.

I now fill up with Shell extra which for me is has the perfect combination of noise/power and price.

I always use my local garage which is Shell. For one reason and one reason only....it's the cheapest garage I know. When everyone else is selling at 85ish pence a litre mine is still at 81pence. Which when you spend ?35-?40 a day on fuel makes a difference at the end of the week.

Oh, yeah and it seems to work ok. The only fuel I won't use is supermarket derv, which IMO is inferior quality.

Run on Shell Diesel Extra. Performance is slightly improved and the engine seems less smokey.
