The 130 was introduced in late 2001 along with the 150. As far as I am aware these are the only PD engines available. To help us help you it would be helpful if you could ask her for the kw figure on the data sticker under the boot carpet. The 130 is 96 kw.
Have a look inside the boot on the edge of the spare wheel well at the build sticker. That will show a figure in Kw. I can't remember the exact numbers (someone here will know) but if you do a search they've been posted recently.
wow! thanks for all that... we've now decided on a PD engined Golf, I'm after a 150, but is it worth the extra over a 130 (it's to replace a '97 Mazda 323F 2.0 V6 147bhp). We have a ?10k budget, and want one in black (with leather - was that an option?) with low miles, in the North East, if anyone is selling?

Is it only the 130 and 150 that are PD engines?
i think you will find you are wrong?.[B)]
Indeed. In the Golf/Bora line-up VW used no less than SEVEN diesel engines!
64 bhp SDI (Not Turbo) - Usually all silver badged, base-spec. Late 1997-1999.
90 bhp non PD - Usually all silver badged, S/SE-spec. Late 1997-2000
110 bhp non PD - Usually badged TDI, GT spec. 1998-2002
100 bhp PD - Usually all silver badged, S/SE/Match/Highline-spec. 2001-2004
115 bhp PD - Usually badged TDI/, S/SE/GT-spec. 2000-2003
130 bhp PD - Usually badged TDI, GT/Highline/Sport-spec. Late 2001-2004
150 bhp PD - Usually badged TDI, GT-spec. Early 2002-2004.
Sometimes dealers like to badge GT TDI's as either GTI's or even 'GT TDI', but the badging above is how they were 'supposed' to be badged up. Keep this in mind when looking for one - the badge is by no means a guarantee of what car you're getting - always check the V5, boot sticker and log-book.
I think that's how it pans out, though I'm sure the more knowledgable will correct me!
Well, I've just bought a 130 (Having come from a 204bhp V6 4Motion) and I can honestly say I'm chuffed to bits with it. Of course, it's nowhere near as quick, but it's certainly not slow. From what I understand the 130 can be remapped (by the likes of AmD, REVO or Upsolute) to around 185bhp - the 150 nudges 200bhp when remapped, so there's not a vast amount in it.
JAM3S, I had my PD130 remapped to 190 and it now does 0-60 approx 7-7.5 sec. If you look in the for sale section I've posted the rolling road plot if you're interested. I considered the PD150 but after speaking to Jabbasport went for the 130, the 150 didn't seem worth the premium for me. The downside is traction, or lack of it unless the road is bone dry, I'm now looking for 4wd!
