If those 3 buttons are available (mine is not GTI), I would connect ipod to A/V (keep the CD changer connected to my MFD2), use those three button as "Pause/Play", "Rev/Previous song" and "FF/Next Song".

(Pause is important - because there is no MUTE button. The MUTE button appears in the DVD version of MFD2)

Is someone developing that? I would buy it if it is available....

I have the CD version and there is a mute button on the steering
wheel. Curiously, although the last track/next track buttons on
the steering wheel work on the ipod, holding them down for FF/FR
doesn't work and you have to use the buttons on the h/u. I also
have an aftermarket Bluetooth phone kit, and the MFD2 auto mutes and
auto pauses the CD/Ipod when a call comes in

Lucky you....because in UK spec, only GTI has the steering wheel controls.... My GT TDI didn't get that, VW UK made a special odd configuration for brits....Every time I go to Germany, I can see those lower spec cheaper models has that, but mine couldn't....Their customer service says "it's not available in UK - end of story!" (They are really really helpful.....)

Why would you want to switch your Roadangel and LRC off, are they not wired to a switched supply?

Crazy, isn't it? Here in Australia, our GTs get the Winter button fitted standard. There's probably only 2 small districts in the whole country where it'd be useful (and even then only during a couple of months).Given the choice, I'd swap mine all day long for the tyre pressure monitor - something you'd use every day!
You can buy the W & TPM switches from here:http://oempl.us/index.php?cPath=23_29&sort=2a&page=2&osCsid=296cd9c833613b598e1f4bd1b4ce204c

Anyone know whether you can get blank switches for use next to the ESP button? Need an on/off button for a mod, but want it to look OEM. Thanks.
I asked the same question about a month ago. See this thread for the answers http://uk-mkivs.net/forums/thread/1013915.aspx

It looks like the ESC, Tyre Pressure Warning System and Winter buttons are the only options. I couldn't track down a "blank" switch, but one chap suggested a way of making a switch work inside the original dummy - see the link.

By the way, the tyre pressure monitor is half useful - it lit up last week to tell me I had a dodgy tyre but not which one. I still had to drive to a petrol station to use the airline to find out which one had the puncture! The dodgy tyre could have been wrecked on the journey - you can't keep stopping on a motorway to see which one is going flat and how fast. Only option would have been to stop and watch for an hour while it slowly went flat. Stupid, half-rrrrsed engineering!

Thanks for the recent replies. I had forgotten all about this post, if you look at my original message it was august 2005!

Still haven't sort out a solution yet though. Ended up putting a hole in blank to hold a switch. Will look at the thread, and have another look at making a switch which is more OEM looking.

Does anyone know, if I were to buy the TPMS switch and harness from this shop, does it easily connect into an exisiting wiring loom. Or do I need to do more work?

Thanks
Sorry to drag up a very old thread, but does anyone know anything about the above question?

If I was to go for the two buttons, are they easy to connect up to make a fully working system (ie. is the tyre monitoring gear already on the car and just needs activating in vag-com?

Cheers,

Andrew

It is not simple, there are a fair few connections, one into the ECU, plus the instructions are in German. A local autelectrician refused to attempt it and the dealer wanted close to £200 to do it.

At this pint I gave up.

Jumping on an old thread here but I am thinking about trying to fit or have fitted the tyre pressure monitor.

Was just wondering if anybody had done it or had it done??

I have emailed the company in America oempl.us about shipping costs and the instructions not being in english but the havn't replied so not very impressed with that really!!

Any thought/advise greatfull received.

Cheers.
