Well, I have been down to Superchips HQ today.........all I can say is WOW !!!!!

A major amount of gratitude goes out to Jamie (Technical Director) and Dave (Workshop Tech).....they spent LOADS of time with me.

I am sure Jamie has plenty to be doing with the usual rigors of everyday business life but in fact devoted two hours solid to showing me around the Superchips offices and workshops.

I also learned alot about how S/C carry out the chipping and how this relates to the franchised S/C dealer networks around the UK and the world.

Best of all though was the result from the primary reason for paying the visit.....the remap!

Dave did the original rolling road........showing the car to have around 153bhp as stock.....not unexpected and pretty well "bang on" the figure that most PD140's show.

The remap was loaded and the RR run up once more.

Smoke was around the same as stock - not alot really - certainly very acceptable.

We then took the car out on the road.......well, in fact Dave did his usual route on the bypass and I passangered with Jamie in his 2,0FSiT Audi A3 Sportback (chipped to 243bhp).

It seemed strange to be following my own car but it was very rewarding......

The key point from all this was that a) my TDi was not smoking much at all AND 2) that the TDi was able to stay ahead of the 2.0FSiT under acceleration from the roundabouts.

In fact in general their performance was on a par.

OK, so the Audi had 2-up........but there's more.......

Jamie suggested they do another map and give the TDi another 10% because the smoke was still low....to which I agreed, of course!

The final RR results were superb in both bhp and torque.....

On Superchips' rollers, the best final run achieved 188bhp / 295lb.ft........which has therefore shown a 35bhp and (IIRC) around 54lb.ft improvement over the stock figures obtained earlier.

I declined another road test as i felt i'd tied up the guys for alot longer than i should have and made my way home.....3 hours after arriving....THAT's how much these guys care about getting it right!

The drive home was inspiring....I managed to give it beans on several stretches.

My main praise comes from just how drivable the car is now.......and does NOT exhibit any of the unwanted traits you'd dread....like crazy torque delivery giving excess wheel spin.

The torque is laid nicely across the revs and power is not too peaky though.......giving a very deceptive amount of shove at almost any revs.

The turbo comes up and spools without too much delay especially if you're changing up and have some revs to build upon.

The big problem now is; just how to keep this side of the law!!!

In a nutshell - you MUST get this done if you're at all thinking of a remap....it's 110% value!

Knowing how much Foxy is into modding/caring for his VWs I would hazard a guess that he has noticed the dealer sticker but has left it up for some reason!!

Enjoy it, hopefully today is dry where you are. Warm her up first, squeeze it all the way in 4th and just sit back and count the seconds until you bottle it and stop accelerating!!!

Brilliant foxy...

I really think superchips are now under-rated...

I have my R32 superchipped and it flys - all for the bargin price of ?270... (find me another r32 chip at that price!)

They really need to get their marketing sorted!

Excellent News! This has to be the best ?443 you could ever spend on your car as all have said before don't think about it any longer book your car in.

The power figures all seem pretty close, although Foxy has got 8bhp more than me, could the miltek have any influenece on this I wonder ?

I had promised to post the dyno graphs & pics I had done at S/C last week but have been having some IT issues regarding my PC having difficulty reading the disc, thanks Foxy I no longer have to worry about this [^]

I have just had to fill up and even with the several 'test' runs still managed 450 miles (no red light)so this bodes well for MPG.

After a week of travelling my favourite routes I can confirm all that Irish & Foxy have been saying the car is far more responsive & bloody quick, here's an example of what you can expect...

One route to work involves an island + uphill lenghty slip road prior to joining the A42 I regularly exit the island foot down, accelerate hard through the gears and clock the terminal speed in 4th just before joining the main carriageway..

Chipped PD150 = 85mph

Standard 2.0TDI = 80mph

Chipped 2.0TDI = 95mph

I never expected the 2.0TDI to actually be quicker than my Golf in any scenario as it never quite feels it due to the linear power delivery I am a shocked but very happy Chappy [:D]

Look forward to some more of your results Foxy after your extensive road testing[8)]

One thing though, may need to change my sig to now contemplating F/R ARB'S, where will it all end[8D]

Ahh he's changed the post - the figures weren't there last night.

Chipped PD150 = 85mph

Standard 2.0TDI = 80mph

Chipped 2.0TDI = 95mph

I'm struggling to believe this really. A heavier car that has similar/ slightly less power than a remapped 150PD can get 10mph quicker onto the motorway. I think you'll find you could easily push 95 out of the 150PD - I know I can get to about 100 on some slip roads.

The only thing that puzzles me is the additional 10%. If they added 10% and this resulted in 188 that means the original map was giving around 170. Minus the 153 for the standard car and this means that the original map was adding just 17hp or am I missing something here???

17bhp doesnt seem alot for a chip and i dont think its likely that anyone using one of the franchised dealers would be given the "extra 10% option"

10% of what they added? ie 1.7bhp?

Nik, this is why I was initially shocked, I too could get more than 85mph in 4th but not on this particular stretch of road prior to joining the M-way, I'm not saying the 2.0TDI is faster overall than my 150PD just in this scenario & to be fair the chipped 150PD always feels quicker due to the way the power is produced, I actually miss the old neck jerking[:D] The 2.0TDI is an entirely different beast very smooth and at times almost too petrol like for my aquired taste but I am slowly being converted the more I drive it, either way remapping any of the PD's provides superb results [^]
