Heya All,

I thought I'd start a build/progress thread on my cars.

I'll start with oldest in my fleet to newest in my fleet would be the easiest way.

PD150 GTI - bought this off the farther in law for my wife to drive it, he owned it since brand new so when the opportunity arose I couldn't buy it quick enough. Ive owned the car for about 3 years. Thankfully the cams were done about 12 months before I took over ownership. However since my wife drives it life hasn't been so easy for this car. All was good for the first 2 years but in January this year about 4 days after passing her MOT she rear ended someone. I purchased the car back off the insurance repaired the damage and she set sail again, however 2/3 weeks later 1stand 2nd went on the gearbox. So tore that down and repaired that. I don't have many pics of that one so here is the only ones I have.

Since fixing the gearbox thankfully she hasn't had any further issues with the car apart from a sticky rear calliper.

This brings me onto my daily

PD130 GT - basically I bought this one as spares to repair the one above, as I was going to remove the front end from this to repair that one, it was sold as spares/repairs as the speedo/fuel gauge and miles were not working and also the handbrake didn't work. I drove down to Devon and towed it all the way home at 2 am ( I have a A frame towing dolly). After getting the car home and having a look over some forums I looked at the wiring loom behind the battery as a likely culperate but all was good.. turns out it was the speed sensor on the gearbox, furthermore the handbrake just needed adjusting. At this point this car seemed too good to break. A quick gumtree searched someone breaking another golf local, he sold me the whole front end for £50 result. I decided that I would make this car my daily and retire my Volvo V40 from daily duties.

In between this I found a deal on a A4 PD130 Quattro with a stage 1 map for little money. I jumped at this as it's a great family/winter/towing car. Ive owned it just over a year now with only needing a alternator pulley and tensioner due to the pulley killing it off. The only thing ive done is fit a towbar and regular oil changes which I aim to do on all my cars every 3-6 months.

As I was working on the above car my best mate had a GTI 180 AUQ that he lost first and second gear on he took the gearbox out and the car had sat for some 6 months.. . At this point I wanted to make a different roadtrip/track car to my megane so I made him an offer and he accepted… towing the car home was interesting as the engine was held in with only one mount with a 2 ratchet straps wrapped around a metal bar spanning the wings on some protective material for the inner wing… this car was then put on my drive whilst I set about fixing the gearbox… the gearbox was fixed within a few days but I got distracted and that's where it sat until last weekend… last weekend I thought it was time to get her going again so I refitted the gearbox, also ive removed all the lower arms and ball joints/suspension etc as its going to be poly'd and refreshed. Also I wanted to hear the car start as it had been 12 months. After cranking the engine without coils connected to build pressure I connected everything and she jumped to life.. As it stands it now starts but I need to finish the suspension refresh, ive fitted the poly ARB just need to find time to press in the bushes which I'll try and do this weekend. I'll also look at removing the SAI etc.

The next GTI I purchased was a bit of an impulse buy, in work one day on ebay I notice a GTI going cheap local because the sump has been Mashed on a raised manhole cover, hadn't been started in 8 months or moved in that fact. Anyway the low bid I threw at ebay won.. so off I went to collect it that evening … I arrived paid the cash and was given a huge stack of history. This car had been well maintained and had passed every mot straight away. I was unsure what to do with the car at this point but thought it would be worth putting a sump on anyway and seeing if she started. Ive put a few threads on about this car but the short version is pulled bearing caps and the bearings looked mint. Put a sump on and she fired straight to life. Therefore the plan was now build this into the track/road trip car as the interior was a bit scruffy and I wanted to rip it all out anyway.

A few pics of the build so far

However I have been having oil pressure issues so an oil pump is on order that I hope will cure the fault, before she hits 5 countries in September including a good few laps of the ring.

The last car in the fleet is my Saab 9-5 Aero Hot, but I wont mention any more on that as it doesn't really fit in plus im thinking of selling her.

Sorry for the random order of pics.

Little update..

Start with the 1.8t 150

Fitted an oil catch can and also put poly arb bushes on and shortened my shortened drop links to stop the arb hitting the drive shaft.. great success that was ..

My Audi has been pressed into service towing a few cars around the place recently.. one was to drag a mk3 golf out of a hole it was sat in for over 2 years.. and the other was to recover a 307 that had been sat in a garage for a year and a half...

And lastly I've discovered full VCDS

Few little things have been progressing with the 1.8t (150)

New throttle position sensor although slightly damaged has been fitted and works MINT.. makes the car drive a world of difference

Also fitted some new discs and pads all around now I need to follow the bedding in progress for a few hundred miles...

I also drilled out and 're threaded the little fecking screw that holds the disc in place as they had both been snapped off before my ownership.

She is almost road trip ready... less than 4 weeks and counting

Had a sticky bonnet catch on the road trip car (less than 2 weeks until it's trip) so but some bonnet pins on ..

Also my little girl added some beauty and the beast stickers..

Also picked up the hound from the groomers

Thats a bit dramatic to change a headlight bulb

I'm guessing you have largest hands and can not get them in between the battery and headlight

My hands arnt that big, but i have rigged my front bumper to be quick release.. only 2 bolts and 2 clips and she pops off... also looks as if one of the previous owners had made their own headlight clip of sorts so was difficult to release..

I’m dealing with the same problem myself. Make sure none of the underbody bungs/plugs are missing - that’s what caused mine.

Haven't updated in a minute so a few things have happened..

Firstly the road trip..

Just shy of 2000 miles in 4 days...

Car was great... only issue I suffered was my passenger window dropping as the car arrived in Amsterdam.

A few pics of the road trip below

This leads me onto my new plans for the road trip car.. I have been undecided for a while so on the weekend I bit the bullet and went and picked up a donor car so I can convert it to me7.5 from the older 3.8.3..

Now I bought an A3 Quattro with only 102000 miles on the clock... common sense would say to use that... but I have grown fond of the blue one..

So teardown has begun.. selling all the bits off the Quattro I don't need inc gearbox etc so hit me up if anyone wants anything..

Anyway I plan on keeping this updated with my progress...

Also my daily drivers have been spot on

Got the new outter drive shaft gator on my daily pd130

Pulled the engine from the donor a3

Also got the AUQ on its wheels for the first time in almost 12 months ..

It's now fully polly'd on the front end .. gearbox repaired.. full service .... just awaiting the wheels to be refurbished so threw odd wheels on it to make it mobile ..
