I'm looking to fit a sport edition cluster, with the alu rings and white strip around the outer edge of the tachos.

This is a full fis item, will it work ok, considering I dont have navi and steering wheel controls?

Also, ive heard that there can be problems with the immobiliser, how can i know if my car is compatible (04/00 LHD mk4 V5).

If I wanted to get navi, which version (MFD Ver D or G) would be best?

Cheers

If you have the old cluster part number , i can give you the `new` cluster part number that you need, theres two or three different types of immobilizer, II or III type, also the full fis will work straight away, and give you lovely graphics for the normal symbols, but remember when ever you change your cluster, youll have to get it recoded, i think with immob II someone on this site might be able to help with vagcom, but with immob III, youll have to go to the stealer

well the last numbers look a bit suspect 860 DX, if you can take your cluster out from the dash, you dont have to unplug them , just look around them or under them and the part number will b there, the 1J0 919 sounds right, so i know youll need a cluster part starting with 1J5 919 , the 919 means that your car does not communicate via can bus, if you can then post up the right part number of your cluster and i,ll have a look, also what year is your car?, better still whats your chassis number?.

Hi Zak,

car was built in 04/00. I got the cluster part number from ETKA, just looked at the various clusters for '00 golfs, and that seemed to be it, being a 260km/h for 2.3 V5...I'll double check the part number, and give you the chassis number tomorrow!

Oh errr, whats canbus? [:I]

LHDV5 if you've got access to VAG COM, go into module 17 and you'll be able to see the part no of the cluster.

When you find out, post the part no of your cluster, sport cluster begin with 1J5 xxx xxx x. Sometimes it far easier just swapping the faces.

Describe how you cluster looks, does it have half a red screen in the centre

I've retro fitted an FIS in my TDi. My car is Immo2.

No Vag Com im afraid! [:I]

My cluster is for a LHD 04/00 AGZ V5, so it has a 260km/h scale and only half FIS. I like the looks of the sport edition clusters, and want to get a mfd navi at some point, so would really like a full FIS (also useful to know how much petrol i have left...not much, damn V5 [:(!]!

Dont really feel confident enough to take the cluster out, plus I wouldnt even know how to be honest! I`ll have a look at my chassis number as soon as I have time.

there's quite a lot of info on the VWNavi and tdiclub.com forums regarding the retro fit of the FIS cluster

I did mine a year ago using a FIS cluster I bought from Germany, brand new exchange unit. My advise have read on these forums and any question I'll try to answer for you

Hardest bit now is finding a FIS cluster for reasonable money. I need a few for friends, don't care if they are used.

Right, think I got my cluster part right this time.

Mine is like this, but with mfa: http://www.gti-tdi.de/pages/1J0%20919%20861%20D%201.htm.

Part number should be 1J0 919 860D, the DX I gave you before seems to be for express delivery itmes, according to http://www.gti-tdi.de/html/allgemeines_tacho.html.

So mine is a regular cluster, without canbus, and with tyep 3 IMMO. Im sure I have the MFA version, since the top half of the display is just for icons, the bottom half is kms, consumption ecc.

Now, which sport cluster to go for, and which MFD, D or G?

LHDV5 you have to be sure what part no your cluster is, you can either take the cluster out of your car and the back of the cluster is the part no is written. I doubt your car is immo 3 if it is 04/00, it will either be an immo I or II

The MFD you need is D

Hz, do you mean VIN number? Its 1JZYW734424.

Could this be the correct speedo for my car: 1J5 920 845 A? Sport edition, FIS, CAN, Immo 2, supposedly suitable for petrols from 1999 to 2001.

Still havent gotten round taking my cluster off to check the part number, I dont want to damage anything unless it is really necessary!

Removing the cluster is easy and you needn't disconnect it electrically.

I did the Bora Sport / Anni cluster upgrade the easier way - strip the clocks and just swap fascias and needles.

There are two makes of clocks - it's ALOT easier if you buy one that matches your existing if you're going down this route..........I has 'issues' which were sorted but tricky!!

Hey, dont hijack my thread! [:X]

Foxy, the main reason I want to get a new cluster is to have FIS, cause Im thinking of getting an MFD at some point, cash permitting.

Im just having trouble finding the correct FIS Sport edition cluster that matches my car (CAN, no CAN, immo I,II,III?).

Can anyone find my cluster part number from my VIN number, and determine whether cluster number 1J5 920 845 A would be ok?

Just as a reminder, I have an LHD Golf V5 (150bhp), built on 04/00.

Cat and others swapping the foils and taking the needles is a piece of cake. 2 min job.

I think there's quite few who can do the swap, depends who will be closest to you. Anyone who does mileage correction can also do the swap. This is something that can be done during meet

LHDV5 disconnect your battery take out your existing cluster and read the part no, post it on the thread. My gut feeling a IJx 920 942A / 1Jx 920 945A cluster will work. I reckon your car is immo II. looking at the build date

LHDV5 if you had vagcom you could have read the part no of your existing cluster without taking anything apart
