driving at 57 in a 30 is far more dangerous than at 35 and anybody who does not see that is a fool.

i agree, my point is speeding is speeding, and if you read the post i wrote that being hit by a car doing 30 will kill you just the same as a car going 57. I wasn't discussing breaking distances.

And 85 on a mway will still get you 4-5 points depending on magistrate and the max fine for speeding on a mway is ?2500.

i got annoyed because dispite you not wanting to get on your high horse, you did.

And as for being glad someone got a ban, well, compassion my friend. we all make mistakes.

The point was that you would not get hit and killed at 30 if you were doing 30-35 before you saw the obstical, as you would have time to greatly reduce your speed or stop. You would only be hitting someone at 30mph if you were doing much greater speeds such as 57mph. I am not on my high horse I am stating facts. Grez has made a mistake, and more before when he got stopped with a bald tyre and doing nearly double the speed limit. You cannot keep making mistakes without paying for it somehow, either with a ban or having to face the parents of the child you just mowed down and splatted all over your car. Try giving compassion to those parents. The idea is to live life and learn its lessons, Grez has just taken a little while longer to learn the lesson, if he has learnt it at all. I have not got on my high horse once in all of this, I have just pointed out the various forms of speeding that exist.

Grez, With 130mph in a 70 and 57 in a 30, I hope you don't drive near me or my family. I don't want to get on my high horse, and I am not whiter than white, but I am glad you got a ban. 85 on a motorway, I see no problem depending on conditions, but 57 in a 30 is pretty unacceptable. Let the flaming begin.

not sure where you got 130 in a 70 from pal

85 on motorway would be 3 points and 60 quid fine[^]

sorry but 57 in a 30 limit is ridiculous[:O] I'm not a very good passenger at the best of times but i'm always telling my mates off for speeding and make them slow down if i'm in a car with them!

What i don't get though is that serial offenders like famous ppl and footballers get off with a fine and sometimes no ban and hardly ever any points whereas joe public will get 3 points and 60 squid fine for say 75 on motorway.

I have to admit the only place i've ever driven more then 85+ is the m6 toll road[)] And i hate the way my friends will say why are you driving so slow when i drive 30 mph in a 30 zone or 20 in a 20 zone[}:)]

clip clop milkfloat. A taste for the melodromatic? once again i do not dissagree with you. I am sure that lessons have been learnt. Its just the hard line you tow my friend. Had someone been injured things would be different, and you would be justified. At this point your letting your training on the Saudi magistrates circuit cloud your judgement (joke)

(The bald tyre was prior to 57 in a 30, not the land speed record attempt if i am reading it correctly)

That's because they can afford an 'expensive smart *** brief' that knows every trick in the book.

I've done 141 on the M40 before and I was caught doing over 100 twice on the M40 too.

May have been safe for the conditions but it's not big and it's not clever, I learnt my lesson, you will get caught eventually.

my mate got caught doing roughly 60ish in a 30, and a cop car pulled him over, they couldn't do him for speeding as it was just a standard panda car, so they did him for dangerous driving or something, any way he got 7 points and ?300 fine!

Excessive speeding in town/built up areas is for muppets, really can't be doing with these anti social losers on the roads. If you have been caught and can see the error of your ways then thats progress. If you still carry on doing it then I hope you get whats coming and get banned.

Am I a hippocrite for now saying that driving at dead on the speed limit is excessive and causes aggro? I tend to keep it above 30 but under 35 in 30 zones cos I don't want to be taking the p1ss either way. Drive at 30 and you get road rage from people thinking you are trying to wind them up. Over 35 and you are treading on dangerous ground both from plod and risking the public. Melodramatic? On some 30 zones yeah but there are some that are so narrow and with parked cars, junctions, pedestrian crossings and so on that you really are better off staying at 30 maximum!

Speeding on the motorway is fine as long as its within reason and adjusted to suit road conditions and level of traffic. In saying that I rarely go above 85mph basically for fear of getting caught as opposed to thinking it is unsafe.

Country roads are another issue and I believe a bit of discretion is required here as sometimes 60 is a bit slow. Felt a bit for Jay K getting done for doing 100mph on the A9. That road is a pain as you end up following a queue and when a dual carriage comes up you want to get by a few cars and sitting at the speed limit is plain stoopid!
