not sure weather any of you can remember but not long after i had my turbo fitted and car remaped, i got nicked for speeding, 77 in a 40 {duel carrigway tho), some of you blasted me and some a little more sympathetic, well i was summons to court which i attended today, ive ended up with ?220 fine + ?35 court costs and 21 days ban, zero points, ive informed my insurance, to which there is no change in premium, overall im pleased with my hearing cos i was expecting worse, i consider my self quite lucky today, so im going to try luck on the lottery tonight []

does sound like you were lucky but then you didnt do anything to bad. i hate roads that look like there high speed but your not quite sure as theres not enough signs up.

bit like one DC i know which was 70 but is now 50 because it became lumpy, nothing really but they felt the need to reduce the speed. its not too bad though as they put up loads of signs.

i think it more dangours to have a fast looking road at slow speed with no signs as you spend the whole time looking around trying to find out what speed your meant to be doing instead of the road.

Oh, the no chnage in premium is only for this year, wait until you try and get a renewal. It may be worth asking for a dummy quote now, just to see how hard you will hit. It may not be pretty.

If your anything like me it will slow you down for about a month or so, then you

will gradually start to get back to your normal way of driving. I was lucky in that

I didn't need to drive the first time I got banned, so wasn't concerned about it all

that much. Problem is that if you get caught again (like I did) they see a previous

ban and come down on you much heavier. I got 3 month ban second time for 102 on a

motorway. []

I was caught last year doing 136MPH on the motorway down to Folkstone - 6AM, empty road, not a car in sight and newly resurfaced road.

Cops stopped me and said it was a good job I slowed down to 100MPH-ish cause their cars can only do 130MPH and they were losing me [8D]

Well did all the paperwork, told me it would have to go to magistrates court as over 100MPH, I was kaking myself, ban inevitable, not a nice start to my holiday. That was August last year - had nothing since.

How lucky am I [][?][][?][]

Go on, someone tell me there's still a chance I'll get done [}] Never had a single point on my licence either - not in 15 years of driving!

Never drive anything like that fast anymore, 90 my limit nowadays - nothing like cops/speeding/magistates/ban/fine/points to chill down the right foot.

You can't get done now as there is a 6 month time limit for the prosecution to be heard at court. I'd say you've been very lucky!!

You can't get done now as there is a 6 month time limit for the prosecution to be heard at court. I'd say you've been very lucky!!

Ive had some other luck in the past,i'd only been driving a few months and got three points for a bold tyre, then a few weeks later i got caught speeding by a copper with a handheld gun, 57 in a 30, got told i was going to fast for a fixed penalty which would of resulted in me having to take my test again, but instead told i was going to be summons to caught, luck would have it, it never came through, and that was over five years ago, got me this time tho[]

I heard that they had 6 months from the date of the offence to put the case before the magistrate, then obviously the magistrate can take it's time to inform you, so you could still get something through even after 6 months. Having been 1 year, 2 months I think the chances of that happening are pretty slim - fingers crossed, I've learnt my lesson, track days only at that speed from now on [:I]

I was lucky tho, I'd have got the fully monty if it have gone to court.

Got some advice for you, friend of mine caught doing exactly the same 61 in a 30.

Did you know you can plead guilty by post and not have to go to court? That's what my friend did, but when you get the papers there's a box that allows you to plead mitigating circumstances. Take time over it, helps if it was a clear road, no pedestrians, good weather, good view ahead, basically anything that would lessen the serverity of an accident at 61 as opposed to 30. Clean licence helps your case too.

He got 4 points and ?120 fine, no ban, no court hearing.

Yep sorry you are quite right it's 6 months for it to go to the magistrates court, but to do this a summons would usually be issued first. With no summons I reckon it's a safe bet that there'll be no case!!

Grez, With 130mph in a 70 and 57 in a 30, I hope you don't drive near me or my family. I don't want to get on my high horse, and I am not whiter than white, but I am glad you got a ban. 85 on a motorway, I see no problem depending on conditions, but 57 in a 30 is pretty unacceptable. Let the flaming begin.

I got caught back in November 2000 for 107.9 on the M18. Rotherham miagistrates court gave me 40 days ban, ?500 fine and a SP50 on my licence. This was my first offence. In the following 4 years my insurance has been ?200 more expensive each year with an SP50/Ban (thats after shoping around for the best deal). So the total cost was at least ?1300, however the mental cost is much, much higher.

So, I've invested in cruise control for the Golf and the S3 and SatNav to ensure anywhere I drive I know exactly what speed Im doing.

Grez you've been pretty lucky I'd say.

Milkfloat - i belive 136 was on a clear road and 57 in a 30, whilst speeding will kill you no quicker than being hit by a car doing 30...as for me? dual carriage way, hardly any traffic and no annotation as to speed limit.

I reckon that nobody on this site is in a position to judge anybody else when it comes to speeding. We all do it, and it is wrong regardless of by how much.

I will take my medicine like a good boy, but just think what you are doing next time you do 35 in a 30, or even 85 in a 70, you are still putting yourself and everybody else around you at risk, especially when half the people on the road are not even able to drive within the required speed limit.

Not flaming, just dont like hipocrisy.

Without doubt driving at 57 in a 30 is far more dangerous than at 35 and anybody who does not see that is a fool. If you were to walk out in front of someone at 30 they will be able to stop in far shorter distance than someone at 57, therefore in a lot of cases the guy traveling at 30 will be able stop and not hit you, whilst the guy at 57 will still be doing 30 when you are hit. Speeding is not black and white as we all know that if you drove though a town centre at 29mph within the speed limit with your eyes closed you will kill someone within seconds. You mention that doing 35 in a 30 or 75 in a 70 is still putting people at risk, correct, but so is doing 20 in a 30, there is no speed of any kind without risk. It is all about reducing that risk. The risk of traveling at 57 compared to 30 is significantly higher. As above I stated that I do speed, everybody does, but there is a huge difference between slightly speeding in the right circumstances and doing nearly double the limit is a residential area. My personal view is that Motorway limits should be increased depending on conditions, so am not part of the anti-speed brigade, just someone who would like to live a little longer.
