Smokey start!

Hi all,

Got hopefully a relatively quick question, my 2002 GT TDi 150 when cold started after its been sat a while, normally on a morning when leaving for work I get a plume of smoke for a couple of seconds, looks mostly black/maybe even slightly bluey. It runs and pulls fine and has not been remapped or anything, is this normal or shouldn't it fire out a load of smoke on cold start? If it makes a difference I run it on Shell vPower Diesel?!

If it is leaking a bit of oil I would of suspected turbo seal or valve stem seals but the turbo was only replaced a year ago? Its done 107,000 miles as well...

Cheers for any ideas [Y]

It sounds normal. You get more smoke when its cold. As long as it clears up I wouldn't worry too much.
Cheers bud, suppose ive noticed it more in this colder weather, didnt think it was anything toooo bad but will have to just keep an eye on it for now [:)]
Thats normal, and I know a few things about what constitutes "abnormal smoke" [:D]
Hmm cheers mate will bear that in mind if it doesn't improve as I have an Opie account, spend hundreds with them every year lol
my 4motion does it too mate, clears once it warms up

dont worry unless its all the time
Mine was making the road foggy and felt lumpy on starting from cold for a couple of minutes

Just had new glow plugs and it runs fine now, but still a little smoke on start up

That's a bit more worrying
