I have a problematic dream.

I'm 22, 23 on June 5th (Reminder to say Happy Birthday, lol) and got a 1.8T golf.

Im going to moving in next year with my fiancee and getting a mortgage. Then Marrying in April 2008. Then having the 6 kids she wants! [:O]

I've longed for a 'dream' car for as long as everyone else on this planet and one of these cars includes a Supra Twin Turbo.

I will only been keeping this for a year or so as i would sell up when i move in and use the money for the house. Bora_Tom last night popped over and gave me some articles and sites on the Supra. Thanks mate. I just need a second (or 3rd) opinion. Would i be doing the right thing? I just want a bit of fun before im old and wrinkly!

Opinions....?

Surprisingly large car.  Only problem is manuals hold a very high residual value over their auto equivalents (for good reason) so you will pay through the nose.  For the Japanese driving experience I would lean more towards an older Mitsubishi Evo.  A friend of mine had a k-reg Evo 2 that he tuned to over 350bhp with decent chassis mods for the same money as the purchase price of a Supra.  Great fun car and in over three years of fairly hard driving it didn't skip a beat.

DO IT DO IT DO IT! supra tt's are awsome but expensive for manuals and u have to have the manual, auto's are [email protected] but do consider another jap motor. 2 yrs ago i had a Subaru impreza WRX STI TYPE R version 5, it only had a few minor mods and it had 320bhp and it was amazing absolutly p!ssed on everything. the only things that got near it were evo 6's the proper 911 turbos and the vx220 turbo. so glad i did it and i so want another one but the property ladder rules![]

go and get looking for one now[:D]

I know Jap motors are reliable, but ?18k is a lot to spend on a car with a motor pushing out 880bhp...if that makes sense.  I'd want one hell of a warranty on buying that car.  Supras can go to 500bhp with ease if you go to a single hybrid turbo.  Past 500bhp your looking at much more money.

Interesting opinions here....

As i said, its gonna be a 'year-long' car as there is no way i could afford to run it AND and new home. I cant really spend more than about 10k on a Supra as im not going to get much for the Golf really.

I did look at the Skylines but can only get an r32 or r33 for under 10k and im not too keen on the style of those. LOVE the R34s though, but doesn't everyone?!

Ive also considered the RX-7. Thats a tasty bit of kit also. Supra seems to be the cheapest to insure though. Im 22, 2 Years NCB, 3 points and its ?1300 full comp. I dont think thats bad!

?1300....... where on earth do you live in the UK?, and who's that from

Im 25 with 7 years no claims and for a Subaru wrx sti its ?1600[:'(]

for a mitsubishi evo 7 (in the same league as the supra) its ?1900[:'(]

You must live in an area with a nil crime rate![:D] or know of a bloody good insurance company that i dont know of[:D]

Bloody hell. Ive just checked to see what it would come out at for me ......:

1995 Supra Twin Turbo, fully comp, protected no-claims, 12000 miles per/year

?800.10...........[:O] with admiral........and i live in a high crime rate area

what going on there then? im sure they are group 20 the same as the mitubishi evo.

If i didnt have a 8 month old daughter i'd buy one tommorow!

Supra's especially uk ones are an oddity when it comes to insurance, yes they are a high group but their claim history is low (due to only 650 uk ones being made for example) usually jap non turbo's cost the same as uk twins to insure and jap twins about another 20%.

The auto is not as bad as everyone makes out, yes manuals are nice but rare and is it worth 0 - 60 in 4.9 compared to 5.1?

All will do silly speeds ( removing a fuse removes the limiter and abs and will allow it to top out better)

You know my thoughts on it and the others I banded around
