hi guys.

my golf is due for a service and cambelt change. Ive been quoted £500 inc VAT from APS for the full service, cambelt change and water pump change, is this a good price.

I asked how much for all of the above and re-map and they quoted £1000 inc VAT....would you say that was a good price.

cheers

This depends on a couple of things... which service is it... are APS a main dealer? and what level/what type (i.e. revo, superchips etc...) of re-map are they talking?

Thats a bit steep isnt it?? I service the car myself, but surely a service shouldnt be no more than around 150-200, and cambelt change - around 80-100. [:S]

Can you tell me for £700 where i could get this done and is it a rated company, as my partner has had work done on his car by APS and has been 100% happy with it.

i would rather pay alittle more to know that the work has been done properly and by a good well know company.

cheers

It would be a full service (long life service i think) as the previous owner serviced it him self, cambelt change and water pump change, all this for £500 inc VAT. Its £1000 with all this and re-map (super chip).

And APS are a main dealer with vagcom.

If it's any help, last month I had an intermediate service and cambelt + tensioners change at a main dealers up north (Yorkshire) for 386 quid all in. They didn't do the water pump, but maybe you can ask them for the breakdown and see how they compare. You might want to ask them to check the aux belt tensioner pulley while they're at it, as mine gave up a week after they changed the cam belt (they had to fiddle about with that area to do the cam belt). That would have cost 160 quid all in at the stealers.

I think £500 sounds Ok to be honest, i had my cambelt, tensioners etc changed (Not the water pump as they said it was in perfect working order) and the 60K service for £500 at a main dealer last month, its worth shopping around though, another dealer from the same franchise wanted over £600, i didn't find the independants to be sufficiently cheaper to justify the loss of the full VW service history ( there was only about £50 difference)

Cheers

Sorry thought APS was an indie, but still no & no unless its a very highly rated dealer and no VAG specialists are near to you, as most VAG specialists do a better job cheaper. Also do you do the mileage per year to justify a longlife service?? (very expensive oil from a dealer >£50). If you do 10-12K or less you'd be better switching to fixed interval.

IMHO

My local dealer in Oxford quoted £441 for the cambelt etc change on my anni so i rung around a few other dealers and found that a dealer in Swindon would do the same job for £300 all in. I carried on ringing around and found that Silver St VW in Taunton will do it for £293 all in so i'll be getting it done there when i'm visiting the mrs parents in november!

It deffo make sense to ring round a few dealers as the price varies so much. I even had one trying to charge me £411 for the cambelt and an extra £300 on top for the water pump!

APS are in Brackley, Northants and they are VAG specialists. My partner had work done on his Audi TT there.

My Golf is 2000 module and although has only 46000k on the clock, it has never had a cambelt change and the last owner serviced it himself so i want an expert to do the job.

For me, APS wanted £335 + VAT for the job and he was the only person to mention changing the water pump at the same time before i had. He obviously know his stuff!

sorry guys my computer is playin up.

ASP were the only ones to mention the water pump to me to, and from previous dealings with them they are real Golf fanatics and do seem to know what they are talking about.
