Ok so I have the audi A3 with the seat belt alarm but I am assuming it's the same as the mkV golf.

I thought I read some where that the alarm could be deactivated? Has anyone managed to do this?

Also can auto lock/unlock be set? It's different from the mkIV settings BTW.

Anyone found any other settings that can be changed on the mkV platform?

I wish I could kill the seatbelt warning.  I have had the car for just a couple of days and it anoys the hell out of me.  What I may end up doing is disconnecting the sensor in the seat if it really gets on my goat.  Regarding the auto lock / unlock.  I have the highline computer that allows you to do a lot, inclusing auto lock / unlock, lights left on time, winter tyre setup.  As yet I have not worked out how to turn the alarm beeps on when the car locks, at the moment I have no idea if the car locks itself or not.

You can code it out if you have the' tool' to do it, but as it is just a sensor in the seat that goes closed circuit when pressure is applied all you need do to 'deactivate'it is unlug it.

Now 'where do you unplug it' you ask.

If you look up under the base of the seat there are either 1, 2 or 3 multiplugs

1 for the side airbag

1 for the seatbelt warning (if fitted)

1 for the heated seat (if fitted)

The airbag and heated seat looms run up into the seat but you can easily see the seatbelt one running up to the fastener, simply unplug this loom at the plug under the seat and the ecu will think the seat is always empty.

If the ECU thinks that the seat is aways empty, then it may not set off the airbag in the event of a crash.....

Just a thought.
Now that is a very important thought. More investigation required.

I have just ordered a new VAG-COM (HEX USB CAN) cable, so will have a little paly when I pick it up next week For now I will keep the cable connected.

Interesting thought indeed, but already thought of. I wouldnt have posted if I hadnt checked out this info before as it was one that came up on my initial thoughts over the system, but the airbags will go off regardless of seat occupation as it is a protective system over the whole 'crumple zone' as such and not just one occupant.

The only reason an airbag wont 'go off' is if its been disabled either by the 'key operation' in newer models or coded out and/or unplugged as on earlier models.

Question that I have to ask is this: Why do you want the seat belt warning disabled? Do you drive with the belt off then? (tut tut if you do).

I always put the belt on before I start the car. Can't understand people that 'forget' to put the belt on until they are a fair distance down the road.

I also read somewhere that the passenger side airbag was linked into the seat sensor, so that it would not deploy if no one was sitting in the seat.

Wonder how long it will be before we get the smart airbags, especially for the drivers side that will vary the detonation depending on how close the driver is to the wheel, because I know quite a few shorter people that have to have the seat quite close, and i really wouldn't like to be sitting that close if the a/b went off, as it would probably crush your chest!

I want it disabled for two reasons:

1) I jump in the car start the engine and reverse out the garage (I often open the door first) then I put my belt on. This is both legal (you don't need a belt on when reversing) and convienient to me.

2) I often put something on the passenger seat. If anything too heavy is on, the bloody thing beeps the whole journey. []

I agree about the smart airbags, the sooner the better.

I just disabled the seatbelt warning.

To do it:

Go to 'Instruments' - 17

Then 'Recode' - 7

To turn off the seatbelt warning minus 2 from the 4th digit, so I changed to 4th digit from a 7 to a 5.

If anyone wants it done who passes Warwickshire just PM or Email me. Simon

Why would you lot not be wearing your seatbelt when you drive!!! [:p][;)][:D]
Think milfloat answered that one..............

Crappy VW for not setting the alarm to disable when in reverse. Volvo's have done it for ages and is a simple electronics thing!!! as for the passenger thing, I can understand that. The newer vauxhall astra Panda's have this facility and bobbies have exemption in law not to wear seatbelt (we normally do wear them, but is essential safety thing when transporting prisoners.) So the beep is a pain in the posterior!!![]

Milkfloat, where did you get your new VAG-COM cable?

I was wanting to turn on the Alarm Arm beep, if it is possible, as the central locking is that quiet now I don't know if I have locked the car half the time.

Just been messing about in a 'new style' passat.

Due to it having an electromechanical handbrake "button" rather than cables and a lever if you 'code out' or unplug the seatbelt warning alarm the 'auto release' doesnt work on the handbrake, pointless info to most people but someone will ask one day [;)]
