Is it an import? Never seen a UK Leon SDI before.

Anyway, my research has told me that since the early 90s VW stopped
making separate blocks for turbo and non-turbo engines. So, your engine
should handle what a 90/110bhp engine can. Don't get a ?300-400 remap
for 5bhp, buy some 90/110bhp injectors, fuel pump, turbo, exhaust, ecu,
oil lines, intercooler, plumbing i.e ?????

In other words forget about it. Your good reason must be it was cheap,
sell it and buy a tdi if you want any kind of speed increase

its an 02 reg with 35k miles on. immaculate car. i opted for it due to insurance reasons.

the engine says SDI on, as does the badging. its an S spec, but has wheel trims.

i paid just over 6 for it.

on insurance quotes though, it comes up as a TDI S

have i been ripped off?

Not necessarily, check the boot floor or handbook for the engine code.
If you can, post a photo of the engine with the engine cover off, the
SDI has a real fancy inlet that runs over the rocker cover. The pipe
will go straight to the airbox also.

a few people have suggested its an import now.

im getting worried. although ive not handed over the cash yet. just a ?200 deposit. (am due to collect the car and pay the balance on tue)

it is definatley an SDI engine. i can tell from driving it, the badge, and the engine itself.

also - the service book - there is no stamp to say the dealers it was 1st purchased from - is this a sign of it being an import?

Hmmm, the badge doesn't really mean anything, and in a heavy car even a 90 tdi can feel slow.

But if you're sure its an SDI import, i'd get my deposit
back. It isn't insured properly if it shows as a tdi, not all companies
insure imports anyway, then when you sell it you'll either have to lie
or a knowlegable person will know its an import. When you can also get
a 1 year older 90 tdi UK car for ?1k less, which is what you are quoted
for, you'd be going for a slower (you did mention making it faster in
the thread title...) more expensive car with worse residuals.

I'd be picking my deposit back up mate, sorry

Whats the reg plate?? because if you type it in to the liverpool
victoria site (when getting a quote) it will tell you what spec it is
i.e the model of the car.

On the liverpool victoria site it says the car doesn't exist and the
reg plate could not be found. hmmm. have you had the car hpi checked,
another thing you could do is go to your local seat dealer and quote
the reg plate and if its a uk car they should have all the details of
the car if its an import they most likely will not have no knowledge of
your particular car.

If it doesn't have a turbo then tuning will be nigh on impossible or very expensive ('cos you'd have to add one!).
I always thought SDIs didn't have a turbo........?

sdi's don't have a turbo i remember my brothers old sdi, it was
slowwwwwwww and thank god i never kept it my one litre leaves it for a
joke, the only gear it fealt quick in was 1st and that was only if you
revved the nuts off it. lol, i remember the pipercross filter making a
slight bit of difference to the performance as it made the first gear
feel pokier, if you get what i mean. Also im pretty sure there was a
tuning box availible for it which would bump it up to 90bhp.

The SDi is way slow due to it not having the turbo.  My last car was a Mk4 SDi, (some pics kicking about on forum somewhere), and my dad had a Octavia TDi (90) estate, and the difference was night and day.  My dads 'tavia would leave it for dead.  So if it feels slow it is deffo an SDi, and as far as I'm aware there was never a Leon SDi, only the TDi (90).  Seat did produce the Ibiza SDi though!  The reg no. is a Scottish car mate, with SK02 being from the Glasgow area if thats any help.  Personnally I'd be wary of it.  Sorry if that isn't what you were wanting to hear mate.

My bro has a 53 plate SDI Golf and it is the slowest car I have ever been in and economy suffers as he has to thrash it to get any kind of speed increase.

If you have not bought it, forget your ?200 and get a TDi. I recently bought an 04 Toledo which had 11k miles and a FSH and 1.8T 180bhp AUQ engine with 6 speed box for ?6400. You could def get a TDi Toledo newer than that for less dosh.

Hi,

I work for Royal & SunAlliance in Motor Insurance and I can find absolutely no reference to a Leon SDi anywhere as a UK car. It's not referred to on the DVLA link or the MID (Motor Insurers Database).

For the price you are paying, I would not TOUCH this car. Again, I'm sorry if this is bad news but you WILL get a much better cat for ?6k than a 02 plate Leon withe a non-quoted SDi engine.

It may have started life a a Leon S TDi 90 but may have had a replacement engine (ie..the SDi engine).

In a word, dodgy. I would be picking up the phone and talking with this dealer about the background of the car, the engine and the spec.

The sdi is non turbo so a chip is pointless, pretty sure tuning boxes
still work on them, but will only be a couple of bhp and smokey. Bad
choice of car from a performance (and performance mods) and resale
point of view.
