Need to get a runaround car to last me at least a year or so, gonna have about ?1k maybe a bit more for the right car..

Could anyone suggest something, i've gone blank as to what would still be a nice, respectable car for a grand!

Cheers guys..

Oxford - Whereabouts are you? That 2nd one does look nice, classy looking car still!

Was thinking something a bit newer may be better, less chance of expensive repairs n all that..

Mk2 Gti everytime![:D] I did and I use it everyday with no problems whatsover, pukka reliable car, and beets the saxo plebs too[;)][)]

I'd stick to the 8v for reduced costs, a grand should buy you a goodun, far better to drive than a mk3 imho[;)]

Mine cost 400 quid with 160k and half a dozen owners, masses of history to, simply can't fault it.

I bought a 93 polo coupe with 72k on the clock for the wife 18 monthes ago for ?650 and its still running strong, great little car.

Agreed, I bought a 92 'coupe' [:D] for our lass for ?500 just over a year ago. Serviced it myself when bought it, took radiator out and flushed cooling system out, cost ?30 in total for parts from GSF. Then did a 650 mile round trip to cornwall and it never batted an eyelid. They're solid aswell, sailed through MOT in december

Decent little cars that cost nothing to run, fix and insure.
