Hi guys,

I just bought an 52 Golf TDI GT 130 at the weekend [:D] and now wanting to get it chipped from Revo!

But first I have a few questions:

1. The car has done 34K miles once chipped does the car become much more smokey?

2. The car has still a lot of warranty time left, will this void the warranty? I believe you can buy a switch that puts it back to stock, has anyone got this, if so has the dealer ever found out about it?

3. What cost am I looking at?

4. Can anyone recommend a place that does revo near Hemel Hempstead? I don't want to go to cowboys!

5. Will chipping it cause any long term problems to the car, i.e will the clutch need replacing, the turbo's blowing up in a year or so etc.....

Sorry for all the questions!

Thanks

My Fabia has the same engine and has been Revo'd;

1. Smoke - a bit more but nothing too dramatic

2. Technically, kiss goodbye to the warranty - the remap is switchable but if the dealer looks closely enough it is traceable. However some dealers are more remap-friendly than others..........

3. ?499 + vat I think plus ?150 for the switch

4. Pass

5. Clutch may die more prematurely depending on your driving style, I havent had any issues at all (touch wood)

It makes the engine much more petrol like and smoother, plus of course the extra oomph!!

Well worth it IMO [:D]

Cheers for the replies [^]

Has anyone had problems with warranty issues cos of the revo? As I don't want to get a problem with the car and then the dealer turn round and say we can't sort it cos of the Revo!

Was the Celica costing too much to run then?

Hi mate,

I've got a new job and travel 100+ miles a day, so needed a diesel!

Only a VW diesel will do and that meant getting a GT TDI! So now I have a car that will do much more mpg and is even faster, win, win situation!

Plus I got a bargain! 52 plate with 34k miles with the sports pack only ?10.5K............... [:D]

The golf does not look as good as the Celica tho [:(!]

That looks very similar to the AMD one-click that killed Ianhg's ECU.

Even if it does work your not strictly keeping your warranty, your still hiding the remap from the dealers. If the ECU is damaged by the 'project box' as Ian's was then the dealer may get suspicious.

The system was developed by milford micro-electronics ( Geoff Everett )

You can only get problems if someone removes the unit part way through a down load.

The system is no switchable, is a full up-load each time. so there is no trace of it been done

Cheers, but I think I'll stick with the revo as they have never had a problem with their software and I've never heard of yours, so can't check out reviews on it?

Have a few engines not popped with revo? Or is that just malicious rumours??

As NikB said, seems to be just rumours. Lot's of the guys have got Revo's and love it!
