Let me start by saying please check the Mk5 items on eBay thread in the
main Mk5 discussion forum, I have posted a link to an eBay listing
where you can buy sets of brand new Mk5 Xenons for ?388 delivered. [:)]

Has anyone retrofitted xenons to their Mk5? I plan on doing another
guide when I get mine, wanted to check though if someone else has
already put a step by step guide up.

Also wondering if

a) They can be hooked upto the manual leveling

b) How much the auto leveling kit costs

c) how to fit that!

Some of the Mk4 xenon retrofit guides will probably make good reading
and share a lot of similarities, so if anyone has a Mk4 guide book
marked please post it here.

I asked the seller on eBay what was included (lense, bulb, ballast, etc) and got this reply.

Hi m8 it includes all the bulbs.

Thanks

Darren.
Hmmm a shorter answer than I expected heh, to the point though I suppose [:)]

Now I've never had Xenon's before, so I'm unsure on how they exactly
work, so I'm hoping someone here can help me fill in the gaps in my
knowledge.

1) Xenon headlamp lense with bulb & ballast (could someone explain the relationships here / how this works)

2) To pass your MOT you also need an auto-leveling kit and headlamp
washer system. (If you have the winter pack you'll have this.)

3) I've seen some auctions on eBay for Xenon cable adapters, although I'm not sure if this is needed?

I'd appreciate it if someone could clear up my confusion on points 1 & 3.

From his reply I'm guessing the lamps he's selling includes all of
point 1 (lense housing, bulb, ballast.) I'm tempted to order.

You dont strictly need the headlamp washers to pass an MOT. You're supposed to have them  (to prevent any dirt on the unit refracting the light) but its unlikely that an MOT tester would fail you for not having them. I knew plenty of people who installed them as a retrofit into the focus and never had any problems with the MOT.

Maybe so but do you want to run the risk of annoying other motorists?

I find some cars with Xenon lights blinding especially when they go over bumps etc. If not having washers makes that worse then please don't do it.

Wonder if he includes fitting instructions with
all that? Perhaps you need to be the guinea pig Kunid to see how hard
it is to do it all?[;)]
Heh, I'm definitely leaning towards trying it [;)] I'm waiting to hear
back from Ade on the Milltek+Caractere GTI valance front, then I'm
going to decide which to go for first.

Includes instructions and everything. Its a pretty comprehensive kit.
What irks me is that the same kits for other cars (such as the Mk4) is
only 199euros, while the Mk5 and Audi A3 8P costs 389euro's.

?388 for the Xenons + ?270 for auto leveling kit. I'm going to
investigate why its so expensive, and if I can find it cheaper
anywhere. (See if any of our resident VAG discount part boys can do a
better deal). I want to try and do this for ?500 if I can.... if I
can't though I'll probably still go for this.

TBH I don't think it'll be too hard to get all this installed.

HI, i retrofitted Xenons to my 7th gen celica so maybe i can fill in some of the gaps. Firstly the ballast and ignitors were in oune unit in my kit. 12V power is brought to the unit where it is converted to 85V then shot through the bulb. It was an off road rally kit and ram at 12,000 lumens. Now it was the brightest, most concentrated low beams id ever seen.
