Nearly same BHP but PD130 will have wayyyyyyy more torque.

Simple as.

When you have nearly the same bhp but one has more torque the torque will have the upper hand everytime.

but the extra revs on a petrol will be converted to torque by the gearbox.the torque at the wheels won't be much different.

it would be close until the speed hit three figures then the deisel runs out of revs and would probably fade back. In gear the pd might just edge it, but dont forget the 180 has the 6spd box aswell!

not nessecary, might be an extra gear change alright but the PD in 6th at 100mph is at only 2950 rpm

a mate of mine drove a octy vrs180 and then drove my remapped 130. and his comments were nothing in it, the PD was nicer to drive down low and quicker but flat out up to 120 mph he told me the PD was just as quick up to that speed

Nice articale in this months GOLF+ mag. Compares two golf mk4s. 1 1.8t on deisel both at 200bhp.

The deisel races ahead on 0-60 but the petrol then thrashes it down the 1/4 mile. So i guess it all depends on what you prefere.

Acceleration or top speed

somethings wrong there, one must have more bhp than the other, cos a 150 petrol and PD150 wont be thrashed by the petrol and they have the same bhp, so id say one has more or less than 200bhp

which month? i have the latest and didnt see that article

Just been looking at autocars road test results.

Comparing standard 130pd and standard 1.8T (150)

130pd

Max speed: 127mph

0-60: 8.5 secs

0-100: 25.9 secs

30-70: 7.8 secs(through gears)

50-70: 8.8 secs(in top gear)

Weight: 1279

1.8T (150)

Max speed: 131mph

0-60: 8.5 secs

0-100: 25.6 secs

30-70: 8.5 secs(through gears)

50-70: 9.4 secs(in top gear)

Weight: 1276

So I'm guessing that a remapped 130pd (putting out about 180bhp) would be faster than a 1.8T (180)....particularly in everyday driving.

No offense, but kindov a pointless post that mate. The figures for the 150 wont really show much compared to a 180. The 50-70 sprint is disregarded as the 150 has a 5psd box. And the difference from the 150 to the 180 is significant.... not only 30 more horses but also another 30ish lb/ft for in gear sprints..

Like has been said it gonna be close, the durv will be easier to drive day to day, but for outright pace you can beat a petrol engine. My reckoning is that the 180 will still have the mapped 130 in the top end!

I see what your saying, but the difference from a 130pd to a remapped 130pd will also be significant.....with, say, 50 lb/ft more (revo remap)

I agree with you there mate. Yet, IMHO I would prefer a stronger mid-range than top end.....but everyones different!
