Alright everyone,

Been noticing the Golf's had a huge amount of condensation this winter, realized I must have some kind of water leak when I more or less found icicles forming on the inside of the windscreen lol.

Checked the usual spots like the pollen filter housing, seals, wet carpets etc. Found a good centimeter of water down behind each of the taillights. Would this just be making its way in from the vent? Some of the flaps aren't sitting tight against the housing so would popping the vent out and getting a replacement solve the issue or is there some other way it might be getting in that I'm missing

Sound deadening below the light looks dry, so yes I'd assume the vent.

Bumper off, pop the vents out and run a bead of silicone or polyurethane sealant around them before refitting.

Cheers, got a scrap TT which I believe has the same vents so I'll pop them in if they're in better nick

don't waste your time doing that... even if they are in a better state... the problem is the seal around it... just do as instructed, take them off clean the mating surfaces and apply a nice bead than refit them. that'll sort it out.

I thought I fixed this problem by resealing the rear light.... Just went to check it and I've got a tiny bit of frost in there!

Glad I saw this post. Will be sealing the vent also!

Small update. The silicone worked great, no more leaks in the rear however, still had a slightly excessive amount of condensation.

Had the golf up on the ramp the other day and I noticed a bit of the drivers side
carpet where a rubber grommet should be. Bit of plastic and some silicone later and the problem is all fixed.
