I've noticed that some people are now modifying their VW badge on the rear by taking the black plastic backplate off and just replacing the badge on its own. How easy is this to do and how do you take the whole thing off to start with, without scratching the tailgate?

Cheers in advance!

And this is how you do it:

http://people.cornell.edu/pages/dal29/gticolormatchemblem.html

Forget the 3M stuff though, I just used a hairdryer & dental floss. And then neat white spirit on the sticky bits.

Don't be too afraid of separating the 2 bits as well, mine made a godawful cracking noise (cause of the glue) - thought I'd be badgeless until I got a new one but thankfully not!

Maybe you have seen some with smaller badges that fit in the recess as well (can't remember what other model they're off now - Passat maybe). Same process for colour coding that if you get one.

Yeah, it seems like there was some confusion on my part but you've certainly cleared that up for me now. Thanks so much for your help. P.S. The how-to looks like it should be extremely easy to follow! Thanks again. [^]

I've just finished colour-coding my Passatt rear badge . . . cant wait to put it on . . . !!

Aw, it'll look the nuts. I wasn't convinced it would make that much difference, did it anyway for a laff, but it really does!

Cat

Have you a picture of your rear ( [:I] [:D] ) showing your colour-coded rear badge?

Ooh err!

Yeah, no bother - I'll get you a shot of a green 'un as soon as I can [^]

HuDSoN, I think the point was that I'm the same colour as him [:D]

Your emblem definitely does look black in that pic too!

Correct - thanks Cat.

It's the Bright Green effect that I wanted to see.

I would have replied sooner but I seem to have had a few connection / site-down problems today.

Maybe I should stay away and let you lot get on without me [B)]

Hi Cat,

I'm thinking of doing this too, so any piccies would be great. Did you use paint from a stealers?

Aw Paul, don't be like that! Think lots of people had connection problems yesterday, you're not alone.

Here's some piccies to make up (sorry about the dirt, took them this morning) [:I]

I used the paint & lacquer spray set from the dealers, yeah. Not bad for ?11 and lots of paint left for other bits & bobs (think I used 3 coats of paint & 2 of lacquer).

Oh and HuDSoN, I agree - black on blue would look good - especially if you did it to a Passat badge, I think.

Hi Cat

Thanks for posting the pictures.

It makes quite a difference. I must have a go at that.

Sorry I'm not in the mood for humour right now. I thought I would reply and log straight off because every time I come on here lately I seem to break it [B)]

By the way, I think you need the Polo Rear-Wiper Mod. I'll PM details tonight when I get home [:)]

Cheers

It's not you pal, it's the forum - it's knacked.

You might have seen the post about them setting up the new server, hopefully it'll all be back to normal once that's done.

Besides, people don't expect immediate replies all the time, don't worry about it [8D]
