only if you could hook it under...which is doubtfull. I find lifting the blades away from the screen and grasping the arm near to the spindle and giving a good wiggle back and forth usully does the trick.

 

No, it didn't work. And I've been wiggling it for 5 hours- it's seized tight.

Any idea which shops my sell a wiper removal tool? I can't afford to wait to get one from ebay.

 

be very carefull...last time i had a siezed wiper arm on my last bora..the arm snapped..so had to buy a complete arm

Thanks mate. I'll see if my local garage has one in the morning (and if they'll let me borrow it), if not then I best hope I can beg a lift to the local Machine Mart.

On a side note, I hate it when you get an otherwise brilliant set of instructions, but it has a bit like "Next, remove X..., then you can...." makes it sound like they slip right off. Dammit!

 

I had the same issue, ended up killing my scuttle cover and shagging the threads on the spindles meaning a new wiper mech!

It became apparent that VW dont use any grease on these parts during factory assembly

 

Phil, mine were pretty well seized on i just sprayed lots of wd40 and pulled and wiggled as hard as I could. They do eventually come off, but if you can get a puller go with that route then there is no risk of breaking anything.

 

Well, I got the arms off- I borrowed a tool from the garage. Next issue is getting the plastic rain tray/scuttle panel affair off without destroying it.

Guidance?

The scuttle panels come off quite easy once you know how. But well done for not breaking it. [Y]

Why you taking it off out of interest?

 

To drill some holes in the firewall! I've got to run the wiring for my new headlight washers (the high pressure pump and fluid level sensor actually) and the aauto-levelling system for my newly fitted [Murdered] OEM Xenons.

 

The way i do it, copied from a windscreen installer when i watched him change mine. The part of the arm that bends with the spring, put the palm of ur hand on it and push repeatedly. It will soon give up [Y]

When you put it back,make sure the groove is perrfectly clean by giving it a good wash,spray WD40 or silicone spray into it and starting at one end push it back into the groove using finger pressure and no more,NEVER EVER twat it with anything unless you want a visit from Gavin from Autoglass[whistle].

I finished the work and put it back before I read that chris- it's still in one piece. However, I'm not taking it off again!

 

Actually, how close to the glass is the plastic meant to go? I've got a gap of about 2mm, but the tab is definately in the groove.

 

It should butt right up and only leave a half mm gap or so. But I have known mine to sit in the groove and leave a 2 mm gap. As Chris states don't give it a whack with anything but you can use your palm to give it a bit of gentle persuasion back in.

 

You've cleaned out the groove, cleaned the scuttle panel?

 

I need to refit mine as it has the same 2/3mm gap after I refurbed my wiper mech! The groove is full of crap, needs a good clean out then it should go in.
