Well maybe a slightly different car this time but was being followed by a Boxster S with two guys in it bobbing and weaving behind me (2 up as well) as I was minding my own business.

Moved over and let them past but as they passed me slowly, both looked across and smiled ...well how could I resist[:I]....so I tucked in behind him as the whisp of exhaust fumes came out as he gunned it, took say 20 yrds out of me as I wanted to make sure he was serious.......thereafter well shiver me timbers, hauled him back and was all over him like a rash (2nd, 3rd, 4th), he couldn't leave the R and we ran out of road....ah fun.....that extra remapped power came in handy[:)]

I love this car so now I am feeling guilty, looking at an RS4 tomorrow[:I][;)]

Good one Doc! I tussled with Boxters when I had my 4mo (slow ones were.. well.. slow and the Boxter S was just out of reach!)

Now with the R you don't notice other people trying to race you! lol

So true....I have this (mis)perception that the "R" really isn't that fast but it continues to prove me wrong, thankfully[^]

Agreed and IMHO no need for the smiley...... why do some people now thik that torque is the new BHP. It simply isnt! The CTR is the perfect example of that! Sure it feels quick and gets going nicely, but with no torque up top there is no power. All these figures people quote are peak figures.

If people want to post torque figures bang a graph of the rev range up... bet you see that the golf doesnt get close for very long!

[/rant] And this is coming from someone who has just put money down on a PD motor. I'm in no illusions its gonna be quick'ish but i do get frustrated with some members getting over excited about torque figures...

and a smiley to show im not really looking like this

Following on from another thread where I posted something similar...........

I have a remapped PD150. Someone in a Boxster S pulls out of a side turning, forcing me to brake very hard, very early one morning near Wellow(?-I think)leading to the M27. We drive through a Truvelo protected zone at 40.

We then come to a roundabout leading to a 70mph dual carriageway section- matey in the Porsche boots it. Having been brake tested by the 'S' I decide to boot it as well. It does not pull any distance whatsoever on me for about a mile or so till the next roundabout. It then takes the roundabout using a very strange line indeed (must have been going to do a rally style flick-lol) so I then catch him right up and go past on the outside as he regains speed.

We then join the M27 so game over.

Moral of the story the Boxster S is quick, faster than a remapped diesel Golf but crucially, not that much faster. Suppose a lot of it could have been down to it being piloted by a hairdresser or someone who had just woken up. In any case was refreshed to see that despite it going as fast as it could in a straight line it didn't leave my old tractor behind.

My experiences;

Remapped PD130 (170bhp/275lb/ft) vs Boxster 2.5 (204bhp/not much torque) - all over it like a rash on a long drive on A and B roads up to silly speeds at times. Great fun.

Remapped PD130 vs Boxster S at Goodwood track day - my car was lapping faster, by quite a margin at times. Don't know how competent the other driver was...I was inexperienced at the time but when the instructor drove we were reeling the Boxster in before the session finished. Lovely car though, I would love a Porsche one day.

Remapped PD150 - no direct experience but confident of its abilities[^] 993 C2 could not get away a few months ago on a dual carriageway blast. Doc bring your R32 round again before you bin it!
