I have just read an article on the forum about the fitting of the aluminium r32 or anniversary trim to the centre consol of the mk 4 golf. I have recently fitted this kit to my v5, having purchased it from www.vagparts.com (great blokes). Anyway, I had the problem that the two vertical strips would not fit to my car as the black ones were part of the cage.To cut a long story short, all the other parts of trim fitted, so instead of replacing the cage (very expensive and laborious method), I took the car to a local sign writer who simply covered the two strips with sticky backed brushed aluminium. Cost me £5 and matches to the other VAG trim perfectly!!!! Hope this helps others.

The name of the company is tint master (they specialize in window tints) and yes they would be able to supply a sheet of the stuff. Only problem is that they arevery big sheets and the company is based in telford. Try your local Halfords or other boy racer supplier as they also sell similar laminated sheets.Be warned though, this stuff is proper aluminium and although very cheep, it does not do tight bends without lifting. You would not be able to cover the ashtray, diagnostic cover or the climate control surround..... only the two vertical strips!

I managed to get the diagnostic cover done with the sticky backed aluminium.Just takes a bit of time with some proper thinners to clean it first, then apply the aluminium slowly and finaly a very small amount of clear nail polish around the edges to prevent it liting. Really does look, the [email protected]*£ox.Have got apicture of mine now but cant get it on the forum. could email though.

Think Ill look into that - it was the joy of having to fit a new cage that put me off doing this - any idea where I could get hold of the five door aluminium trim?

Felix, just fitted the new cage in my lunch break, very easy. Looks worse as in the pics it looks like the complete dash has gone, but its very simple.

I bought all mine from www.vagparts.com for my 5-door

If you don't mind me asking what was the total cost ?

It should be around £215 with delivery and discount. This is for climate I think manual A/C is slightly more.
