I have a 1.4 s which has just the basic key...I was wondering if I could convert this to a flip key, obviously not expecting the buttons to work..but would it be a major issue to synch the new key with the imoboliser...which i presume my car has with a thing(what ever its called) for it in the key!

Help would be massively appreciated...as I feel a little ashamed as I hand my mk2 looking key to the cute girl on the tesco counter when she gently swipes my clubcard so sexily!

i have read from other posts that when buying new flip keys when the vehicle has remote locking and alarm etc that you have to purchase a key with specific code.

Because mine is a 1.4 and doesnt have all the remote stuff and I dont expect the remote buttons to work, is it simply a matter of any key and then the immoboliser transponder either swapped from original key to the other or simply synched to the car????? and then obviously a blank blade cut.

help would be mucho apreciated

Is it really worth the messing about mate just to look cool [:p]? why don't you just get a dud flip key and put it on your key ring then when you are near your car just whip your key out and bobs ya uncle!!!! [:D]

With respect mate, I was aware it was tongue 'n' cheek. I was simply giving my opinion that the money you are spending on the key could be put towards something else worth it. I have read that replacing the original keys are over ?100 so I would have thought to replicate one would be expensive. Just sounds like more messing around than its worth.

Good luck with it though........

My '02 Bora is a pre-owned how can I find out if it came with a transponder? The original key has a center button that is broken and I would like to change it to a switch blade and get it programmed.

The transponder chip can't be swapped,it's so well glued in you'll break it trying. The new chip will need to be programmed in either by VW,or someone with VAG-COM,but you will need your four figure SKC (Secret Key Code) normally recorded on a tag with the original keys if using VAG-COM as it can't read this.

cheers chris....i have quite a good relationship with my VW dealer as my dad works at the place next door. So they should be able to do it and I have the 4 digit code.

I know I probably sound thick..but just to be definite on the above question before I purchase..any transponder can be synched?

Can any key be synched to any imoboliser...1.4 imoboliser.

If i buy one take it into VW dealer they will be able to synch it with my imoboliser?
As far as I know all the transponder chips are the same(model that is,different code of course),and any Veedub dealer will have the necessary equipment to code it in for you.

It almost certainly will have one,but you should get the green key in car symbol when you turn the ignition on,which will go out after a few seconds.

how much do the stealers charge to synch the immoboliser transponder?

and how easy is it to get the key cut...is it a locksmith thing...or is it more specialist?

May I suggest some 3rd party remote locking systems? I was thinking of going down this route as Im fairly addiment I want to delock my car ! I'm thinking along the lines of clifford RL/Alarm setup, possibly even go for remote start up but im not sure what that would involve, and it would probably be alot more money for remote ignition.
