puddle light problem

im hoping someone can help me on this.

when i bought the car there wasnt actually a puddle light in the passenger door, someone had obviously taken it out at some point. now ive bought a new unit to go into and when plugged in it does not work.

the new unit works in the drivers door though so no problems with that. does the passenger door puddle light have its own fuse at all, that could have stopped working? or is it a different problem as to why it doesnt work?

thanks

Do the overhead interior lights come on when you open only this door? And does the car do the auto relocking after twenty seconds of only this door being opened? It may be that the car is not getting the signal that the door is open, which is usually due to the dry/cracked solder joint issue in the door lock.
Yep, sounds like it doesn't know that door's open.
yeah come to mention it the interior lights dont come on when the passenger door is open either.

thanks for posting up those guides mate... i dont have any sort of skills near that to try doing it myself though, lol.

any ideas on the sort of cost it would be to get that fixed at vw or a vw specialist?
Pretty sure they will just replace the door lock module because only retro hip people repair things these days. Give them a ring They may surprise you.
i also have this problem, i take it all the buisness happens in the door lock module no seperate switch elsewhere like older cars?

Correct. There are IIRC either 4 or 5 microswitches within the unit.
No main dealers I've ever dealt with would repair something like this, they would only fit new parts.

New door lock module = £110 inc VAT
Labour at about £100 an hour = £200 + VAT

Or DIY it.......£0.00 pence[<)].
