Only noticed it whilst out just now, the glow plug light flashes on/off while the engines running.

It dissapears as usual when you turn the ignition on, then after a minute or so it starts flashing[!][!]

Can anyone help please.[?][?][?]

Have just checked in the VW handbook, it say's its a fault with the engine management system and should be checked by a VW stealer as soon as possible.[V][V][V][V][V][V][V][V][V][V]

Anyone know what could be going wrong.

Alos the engine management recieves a signal from the brake light switch and related circuit.

It uses this signal for a multitude of things like anti stall as it alters pump timing when your foot is on the brake to stop the engine cutting out when you approach a roundabout or juntion.

It's not as easy as you think.

The alignment pegs and the switch body have to be set correctly (trial and error) by rotating the assembly before it's offered up into the mounting hole. If you dont get the alignment right the new switch will not work.

I learnt this by doing it, it took me over an hour to figure it out though.

Also, your fuse blowing is / was probably caused by the contacts in the switch getting dirty / arcing etc. I managed to remove and dismantle my switch and clean it up but this was only a temp fix, in the end I bought a new switch, as stated above about ? 7.

Best tip is to Really Really pay attention to how the things fits before you take the old one out.

Well, just been relieved of ?50 by the local VW dealer who replaced the faulty switch. However the light's still flashing & they want the car for "about half a day for wiring investigation". I might have screwed something up when I did the Cruise install - however VAGCOM showed it as successful install... Ho hum - any ideas?

Brake lights are fine, will check fuses tonight tho I'm surprised VW diagnostics wouldn't spot that. However typing this has just reminded me of how sick I felt when overhearing two of the guys at the dealers bragging how they charged a punter over 360notes for something which was warrenty covered - 'nuff said...

Have checked fuse 13, which was the problem last time, but thats ok.

Has anyone got any info on the brake light switch, whereabouts its located, and is it easy enough to change.[?][?]

Cheers

Morning all,

First time on here and am really hoping you can help!

Similar problem to below, driving along on the motorway ~ 15 miles and the car kind of shudders (a bit like when bump starting but less severe) and the coil lamp comes on and flashes at me until I get to work and switch the ignition of an on again. Did this to me yesterday and was fine on the way home......

Observations and changes; has felt a little sluggish at times, not enough for me to be sure though; also about a month ago I had the software reflashed as it had developed the neat trick of opening all the windows for passing criminals.

Brake lights appear to be working, both sides....

Please help as I am looking at taking to the dealers and would really like to not grab my ankles....car is a 55 plate Mk5 GT TDI (140) ~53K on the clock.

Hoping for a simple cheap outcome!

Jim
