Saw a brand new 997 Carrera S last night.

PHWOOOAAAR!

Looks fantastic with a mix of 993 and 996 and the sound was lovely!

I think that's my new "target".

Keep the R32 for a couple of years and then try one out.[:D]

I've yet to see the new 997 in the flesh but from the pics they look beautiful; retro looking yet still maintains a modern progression. They have however been a little lacking on the power on their NA models though - the old 996 Carrera 4S, despite packing a 3.6 would only produce 320bhp - they really should be aiming for at least 100bhp/litre to keep up with the competitors...

Had a test drive in a Carrera S 997 (355 BHP) last Thursday (23rd).

Abiding impression is that it is exceptionally civilised for such a fast motor, just so easy to drive.

By this I don't mean its not not engaging, but it just works perfectly, no lag, no squeaks, no roll - no disconcerting "lurch" when yiou change direction like a GTI. Just very fast involving drive. - Feeling of total safety, security and granite build.

That said it does 0-60 4.5 Secs !!!

This is what I lucked into until Turbo arrives:

(cancelled order for December 2004 [:D][:D][:D])

yes but your for geting the hole thing here so 997 are what 65k ish and golfs are worth 20 k new so now you can get a new golf or 911 and then what point i am trying to get at

...........that you can't afford a 997?........and have had a bottle of wine?[:I]

BTW nor can I............

But I saw a 996 Turbo 4 LHD today that I could have for under ?45k. In very nice nick. Now that is unaffordable but not beyond the realms of possibility.

I dint drink wine much and for your information I could go out and get one tomorrow if I wanted ( but am happy with my golf for now ) and if I was to go get a new car I would sell me 250 grand house and go out and pay cash for a RS6 or 4 estate as its more practical. I would find it Ideal for my springer spaniel and me GUNS. As well as I just spent 15 grand on a conservatory earlier this year which is worth far more that your car. ( bye the way my wife wrote this artical )

The RS3 will probably not materialise until late 2006 - I have a deposit on one which is not actually on an official list as there are no details on the car, I was told yesterday that I can swap it to 1st in line for the S3 as I was told that will be out mid next year and have around 280BHP 4 wheel drive etc etc.

The 997 would be a drean car for me as I have always loved 911's - I saw one yesterday but had to look twice as it was v similar to the 996 - awesome sounding.
