Now there's a car!

Tested this month (brief write up) is the new Polo GTi 1.8T. The writer is very complimentary about it, also mentions that they've fitted the 150bhp version 'cos the 180 would position it too close to the MkV GTi....! Handling is described as superb and they say it's a spiritual successor to the Mk1 as it's so much lighter and more agile than the MkV.

So maybe my desire for a 120d Sport is under threat....[;)]

Don't think so, it appeared to be a pre-launch exclusive.

Some mention of tying in with the facelift that's due for the Polo, maybe a bodykit/spoilers of some kind. The pictures showed a std car with Montys and a twin exhaust.

Saw that too, sounds good. Haven't read the review yet though, I read strictly cover to cover with no skipping allowed![:D]

I did notice though that the tech spec box says the capacity is just over 1700cc. Is this just a typo? I presume it's the standard VAG 1.8T lump and I assume that is actually a 1.8!!??

I was told by our man at VW that the Polo GTi (new... 9n2) would have a "New Technology" engine... So I don't expect it to be a 20vT...

I asked about 1.6 FSI Turbo's and he smiled. Don't know what to make of that lol

The Ibiza Cupra already has the 1.8T 180bhp tho, so why would people go for the slower Polo??

For the same reason why people bought and still buy 150bhp Golf 1.8T when they could get a 180bhp Leon.

'Cos the Ibiza is pig ugly?

Whoever designed the sides of the new Ibiza needs shot. Even with 17's it looks extremely underwheeled with the wheels tucked in right under the body.

Polo isn't the best looking car but it is quite classy.

I would agree to the same sort of sentiment though Chris- why would anyone buy a Polo GT over a Fabia vRS?

Diesel/petrol then the same engineers who've done the MkV might be doing ther suspension which could mean it'll actually be very good 'out of the box'.

What appeals to me is the potential i.e. you could end up with a subtle understated 5 door hatch with 200+bhp, that isn't[B)] a lard-ar*e MkIV/MkV....
