Jason,

I use either tesco's 95 ron or sometimes use the tesco's 99 super. or sometimes the bp standard or ultimate.

Depending on what's available at the time. Never go past a shell station to get optimax really.

I'm not remapped so don't really see much point in using super all the time.

I always use BP 95 RON. I've had extended trials of Optimax and
Ultimate in both this and my last car (V6 4Mo Bora), and there were zero benefits in either -
it was just more expensive. So I now stick to 95 (albeit only BP).

I've always wondered why people use 97, 98 or 99 ron fuel in cars with
standard maps, if its not pulling timing with the standard map (lets
face it, it shouldn't be) then you really won't get much of a benefit
by using premium fuels.

Just stick with high quality 95, like Mike does with BP.

I wouldn't bother with the higher octane stuff unless I had a performance car i.e not a GTi or lower, The gains are minimal.

I use Optimax, but can't compare to BP Ultimate, as there are no BP stations near where I live. I get a good 30 miles extra per tank with Optimax over the normal Shell 95 RON.

On my 1.8T AGU I get more miles to a tank with Shell Optimax. Also I do notice that the car seems to feel much more responsive.

I might have to also try Tesco's Super soon.

95 RON, often from Morrisons. The car has been remapped by Upsolute and doesn't complain whatsoever. I daren't try Optimax/Ultimate in case I like it - my fuel bill is enough as it is!

Can't honestly say I notice any difference between brands.

BP Ultimate is 97ron but by all accounts lasts a lot longer than Optimax.

Used to use tesco's 95 RON, converted to optimax a couple of months
ago, when I realised that not too long ago we were paying almost a quid
for a litre of 95, so a litre of optimax for 94 or whatever, seems a
bargain. Havent noticed any difference in power (there's none to start
with), but response is better, as is fuel economy. And optimax cleans
your engine.

So what is there to loose by spending a few pence more each litre......

But why does optimax produce better mileage ?
