Based on looks - the mkiv R32.

Based on drive - Unsure, depends what the new one is like...

From purely looking at the photos though, the mkv looks underated and like a late special edition model they bring out to try and shift some cars before production ends.

Those wheels are just plain bland [N]

But I won't be buying one so who am I to comment [:p]

Just to help an old codger out, what is an R32. Is it an 4WD Golf or something like that?

Definitely the old one. It looks soooooo much better and it will be a classic one day[;)] Save your cash and spend it on improving the one you have. The rare colour of yours makes it more exclusive than the new R32 IMO.

Dissenting voice here. I think the R32 looks like a right chav mobile one step up from the badly "customised" Citroen Saxos you see in most town centres.

The basic MK IV was a very pretty car and the MK V was disappointing in the looks department compared with its cousin the latest A3.

However the main problem with the old R32 is that it is based a fundamentally old tech chassis and suspension. You can stiffen and lower them massively and but then you end up with something thats woefully unrefined and gets unsettlled on less than perfect roads.

Its onwards and upwards as thet say ;)

MK IV looks sharp drives soft MK V looks soft drives sharp

oh well theres the MK VI I suppose
