Howabout an option to remove them from the off topic area, and maybe
welcome area so as tp promote posting in the on topic areas?

I for one do use post counts to judge members, yes time on the forum is
usefull, but quite often post counts help judge how established a
member is especially when dealing with classifed ads, I for 1 would not
buy from a user that has a post count less than 500 or hadnt been on
here for at least 6 months, yese there is the exception say d9lon, but
I do remeber many moons ago someone trying todo a groupbuy, he had been
around for a while but had a very low count, he then used another
account to say he was someonelse and vouch for himself as 3rd party,
for the sake of security in the classifieds etc I think they should
stay.

If eever you have done a groupbuy, or a feeler (Tabs I know you have)
post counts matter alot, as in 99% of my experience the people with a
very low count cannot be relied on with a response to a feeler

You have my reasoning Gary, as said earlier I think we shouldnt have
counts in the off topic area, one way to do this is to delete the
off topic area of a rolling 4 week basis, as other forums do, this
serves several purposes, saves on space, discourages whoring, and
prevnts the flooding of search engines with off-topic material linking
to an on-topic site, if you see what I mean!

I have to disagree slightly with that point Andy, my mate's been on here a lot longer than me, his post count is less than 300, mine at the moment is just shy of 1200...

It's not fair to say i know more than him when, IMO i don't... This is the reason for getting rid of the count, we shouldn't be judging people on numbers, just responding to them! [:D]

I can name a few members that abuse the welcome area to up post counts,
it was something I spotted early on in my forum days, on the flipside
of the coin when i was looking for a 4mo the 1st person I meassaged for
advice on here was Mikedav, purely because he had a quite high postcont
and owned a 4motion, in the old snitz forums there was page by page
listing of members in post order and I guarantee you there wasnt one
idiot on the first 3 pages so you could guarantee by aiming a question
at one of these mebere or by searching for there previous posts then
you would quite often find out what you where looking for.

RJH I do not deny that post counts reflect knowledge a clearly they
dont, however they do in a roundabout manner show how trustworthy and
dedicated a user is to a forum. Your comments reassure my pont above I
clearly would buy something from you in the classifieds, but I would
not from your friend.
