I think if I get paid enough this month Im gonna get the Golf remapped or chipped. I know this has been covered a million times before but what is the best chip/ map per ??? for my car?

Its a: 2000 X reg GTI Turbo AGU engine code. I have an EVO CAI and a Jetex Cat-back exhaust system.

Please list the options Ie Revo/ Upsolute, along with the cost and what BHP I should see on the rollers.

Ive been tempted by reading the recent RR meet thread, Damn this forum costs me a fortune [:'(]

Youll have to wait for someone with some in depth knowledge to come along, thats alot of stats u want there buddy. It would be quicker and more accurate to visit the home pages of the companies involved.

I myself have had my 1.8T Revo'd and im VERY happy with it. That was ?500, and with a little tweaking (swap to an Audi Fuel Injector), Im around the 230bhp mark, but then I have other mods too. You should see around the 210 mark, if your car is standard.

He has an AGU so he will be looking at under 200bhp unless he wants to upgrade his K03 turbo to a K03sport.
I know Carlos had just shy of 200bhp on JBS' rolling road earlier this year, he has Revo and its ?399+VAT.
Upsolute is cheaper, around ?315 IIRC but will give you lower figures, around 185-190bhp.
Another option is Custom Code from JBS though you will have to speak to them with regards to power claims.

If you've still got your standard dv that was ptschhhhing (best way or describing it lol) when you showed those video clips of your evo cai it would be wise to go for an uprated one such as as a Forge DV007P before getting the map.

Revo or custom code seem to be the most popular choices.

Is it a late registered AGU Tim? AGU's were phased out in the W plate circa June 2000, followed by the ARZ, and then AUM in November 2000. Sorry I don't know much about the chip, but maybe try a free 'trial', I did and loved it :eek:D

Thanks for the replies guys. I was thinking upsolute purely because its the cheapest by a good ?100. Does it have any significant dissadvantages being a chip rather than a remap like revo (I presume I am correct in saying this?). I want to have the lowest risk of it causing problems as possible.

Also are they all detectable ie, for telling insurance company purposes?

Is it a late registered 'X' Tim? AGU's were phased out in the W plate circa June 2000, followed by the ARZ, and then AUM in November 2000. Sorry I don't know much about the chip, but maybe try a free 'trial', I did and loved it :eek:D
It was registered Jan 2001 so its about as late as an X gets really, prob because it was imported originally.

My mate has a 2000 W reg ARZ which we were puzzled by because his is an older car with a newer engine.

If you have an AGU you will have to replace the existing ECU chip, whereas with the AUM it's uploaded via the OBDII port, so not 'as detectable' - an insurer could probably find out either way..

edit: beat me to posting. I thought it was an odd combo, an X with an AGU!!

I guarantee you'll have fun, whichever route you choose to take

I have just replaced the standard DV with the latest uprated standrd DV because mine was broken!

My CAI now makes a proper dumping noise now rather than a flutter like in the video clips. Sounds quite different. The performance loss from my broken DV was quite incredible. Could'nt beleive how much better the car pulled when I changed it!

Im trying to justify spending the money. I keep thinking that the car's worth probably over ?8000 so I suppose ?300 to improve it no end is hardly worth even considering not doing it?

I'll call up and find out soon, but how much 'generally' does it affect peoples insurance?

?270 is a v.good deal by the looks of it. Might try and sort another GB out.

I read your post re. selling it but forgot to reply. I would have said dont if I had done though!

I often wonder if I would sell should someone offer me a decent amount for mine. I have had a few random emails offering to buy my car in the last 2 months! Knowone serious enough to follow it up yet though.

Are you coming to the Bluewater meet mate?

HHmm. Called My insurance company this morning to find out how a chip would affect my policy. I was told an additional ?80 until the end of my policy Only 4 months left so next year it would be an additional ?180-200 extra. Ouch.

Did anybody pay significantly less when chipping their car with certain insurnace companies?

Im sure some people have a very minimal increase over their policy price? Im prepared to call around to see if I can find a more leanient company but ideas would be good?
