Ok mate,

I have just bought one from the USA on Ebay and got delivered yesterday[:D]

The US ones are compatible with the Gamma HU's!

If you do not have a boot mount CD changer then you will need a CD cable!

So this is what you will need to complete the install:

1. Phatnoise from the US. When buying from the US asked them to state it as a gift and value at $10 to avoid duty! But this will effect your insurance!

See here ?126.36 inc p&p and no duty! This is where I got mine!

2. Mains Power adapter for the cradle ?7.99 from argos

3. Cd changer fitting kit ?51.99 from dealers (brackets, cable etc)

You will need to cut a bit out of the boot interior where the first aid kit is as the flap will not close once the phatnoise is installed!

You may need a suppressor if you get a whining noise too.

Optional, VW single cd player (in dash) is compatible!

I have this install to look forward to this weekend, I'm not looking forward to running the CD cable!

Hope this helps!

I need the Mains adaptor too, which one did you get? According to Phatnoise FAQ:

The AC to DC adapter specifications are as follows:

  • Find a "regulated" power supply; this means
its voltage is always the same regardless of the load current.
Transformers do not fall into this category.

  • Output (7.5 - 12V DC), 1000mA

The plug specifications are:

  • 2.1 mm inner diameter, 5.0 mm outer diameter, 9mm sleeve, center positive

Sounds like a race mate [;)]

Have you got to install the CD changer cable & bracket?

Anyway good luck with the install, I think I'll be the one asking for help first [*-)]

[:D]

Ps I just noticed your Username...... Aberdeen! I gather that is where you are, my old dear is from Sunny Stonehaven [H]

Phew! All sorted, turns out that the little bendy bit of metal that makes a connection when the DMS is inserted was not making its connection, a little 'tweak' with a screwdriver and away it went!! Time to sort the tunes and wait for my cable to arrive then proceed with the install!!! [:D]

Hahah yer on!!! [;)]
yeah, I'm in aberdeen, ah, stoney and all that sun, maybe thats why they've just reopened the open air pool!?!?!? BRRR!!!
Yeah noticed that when I was up there a couple of weeks ago!

Anyway mate, nearly finished the install....... very easy to do! Took only 3 hour, would have been less but needed to check it was working before I put it in and this was 30mins wasted as I found the HU was not connected properly (a wire fell out)!

Just have to fit the changer bracket which has caused the most problems as I don't know how it is done!? (see my other post)

You got any questions about the install just ask!

Good luck

hi all,

how did the installs go?

Any hints and tips or better photographs, of the install that is, not the misses!!!

hope it went well

Phatbox virgin
It is very easy!

This is what I done: PHATBOX INSTALL

1. Pull out the HU & Dash CD Changer

2. Take off the side sills! When you take the first side sill under the glovebox you will see the earthing (as 2 there is already 2 earth wires going to there)!

3. Plug in the CD changer cable to the HU & earthing point and connect to PB to see if it works.

4. What then is put your hand behind the HU and push the CD cable up behind the console.

5. Then route the CD cable under the foam (under the glovebox) and side sills but do this last just make sure you have enough cable left.

6. Take the rear seat out (the bottom) and you will notice a big black plastic screw! Undo this and then you will see another one when you take the rear back down... undo this!

7. In the boot unscrew the metal bag hook! Remove the first aid holder. Then pull the top of the boot trim (under the parcel shelf). This is so when you push the cable to the boot it is easy to find........ but this step is not ness!

8. Don't take off, just pop the front of the card if 3 door (the bit under the seat belt)! This will enable you to just push the cable under the trim (but not yet).

9. Now push the cable in to the boot, via under the trim just below the rear seat belt and keep pushing until you see it in the boot.

10. Once in the boot, now just push the cable under the panels in the car and under the foam.

11. Put back in the sills and rear seat............. and done!

It is very easy 2-3 hours max if a novice, like me!

If you don't have a in dash CD changer, I would take out the cubby hole, just to give you more room! Follow the instructions when hooking up the PB for the first time!

Hope this helps

The tough bit is if you have a 5 Door like me, and getting the cable
past the 'B' Pillar!!! Relatively simple but awkware!! (yes I meant that - Awkward/Nightmare!) I ended up semi
removing the plastic strips and feeling the cable through, rest of the
install was a bit of a breeze really. Just need to get the 'skipping'
sorted. I have a Sat Nav MFD Version 'G' which apparently is a bit of a
nightmare when it comes to Phatnoise. Looks like shipping it back to
the states for Phatnoise to look at like Wayne did. [:'(] But at least
its installed now, and for the moment I can deal with it - but not
forever!!

Hi John,

I'm glad I could have been of some help! That ebay seller is a good one, very rare these days (the exchange rate must have changed [:p])! Did he sort you out with the customs thieves [6]

The install is pretty simple, if you got any questions just give me a shout! The PB is a very impressive piece of kit [:D]
