Hi guys,

I've not been on here for a while so I apologise

if this question has been asked recently.

I am thinking of getting a prefix style personal registration

and I wondered what was involved. Are there any hidden costs

and how do you go about transfering the registrations?

if you buy from DVLA then the price you see is the price you pay. Other websites have hidden costs like the assignment fee which is ?80.

Pay the ?250 - they'll send you a certificate saying you own the personalised reg - then you take the certificate along with your V5 (I think) to your local DVLA office and they'll transfer the reg onto your car there and then. You then have 24 hours to get a plate made up. I did it on the Passat last Christmas. Very easy to sort out. My plate came direct from DVLA.

You will also need to take your MOT certificate to the local DVLA off (if you have one) You can get plates up before you transfer at the DVLA office. Plenty of internet companies will make them, many with next day delivery.

You can do it all by post if you wish. I could not be bothered to drive to Birmiongham so I posted it all off, took less than a week from buying to getting the plates on the car.

dont forget to tell you insurance company though!

Definitely get your plate from the DVLA as the price you see on the website is the price you pay unlike all the others!

I too am thinking of getting a private plate but car still on HP for another 12 months, do I have to wait until HP clear or can all the details be transferred, cheers Guys...[]

Can't see any reason why you can't have a personal plate on it.
