Hi guys. I currently drive an RX8 but with the ever growing fuel bills and the fact ive just bought a house i thought id have to make the switch to an oil burner! After a lot of consideration ive gone for an anniversary golf tdi.

I have paid a deposit one one- it looks and drives striaght but is there anything in particular i need to look for before i complete the deal? Its done about 85,000 miles and has a full history. Its got all the stamps etc but can i check with volkswagen that its all legit? Also the plaque thingy with the ltd edition number is missing can i easily get another one? Also the wheels are quite badly corroded can they be changed under warranty will even though its over 3 years old now?

Is there anything else i should think of? Any advice much appreciated....

Go into VW with the reg and ask the service person very nicely if they can check if the history is 100%

also they will be able to tell you if the car is a genuine anni and not a 150 with all the bits added on

Done expect to save loads on fuel as the price of diesel has went up that much that it i dont save as much as i thought i would going from a 2.0 turbo

im in same situation as you although my car only has 25k and 3 service stamps so im satisified its been looked after.

wheels where a mess and dealer has said he will refurb them but
obviously wont come back chrome. Gonna get through the winter and then
look at getting them down "smoked chrome" as its a black car. Heard it
looks good on the anni's.

I checked every button and every panel. Just wanted to make sure all
the leccys worked really. no doubt engine is in good nick at only 25k
and seemed to drive ok.

One thing I didnt check when I bought my pd115 TDI Golf was the spare wheel and jacking kit, make sure its complete - mine was missing a jack, and vw charge ?40 quid for a new one!!!!

Other stuff I would normally check for is that all the switches are working, eg, if it has heated seats, swicth them on and sit on both seats!!! I assumyou will get some sort of warranty with it, as for you wheels im not sure tbh, but im sure someone will be along to inform ya. Good Luck [:)]

I was getting avarage 22mpg in my GSI and now get 34mpg in the golf

so a gallon of unleaded works out at ?3.83

and a gallon of diesel works out at ?4.09

so 12 miles more per gallon for an extra 26p

GSI = 17.4p PER MILE

TDI = 12p PER MILE

hope that helps [:D]

Will,

OK private - I'd consider having someone take a look at it with you firstly, it's all too easy to miss things that you'll notice after the deal is done. I assume the cam belt and associated stuff will have been done at 60k? along with other stuff mentioned, go over every panel and look at how the joint up, gaps and looking for any trace of overspray or lines from masking. At that mileage, I'd expect to see more than a few stonechips - make sure the lamps are ok as they're expensive. If there's only a few/none, suspect new paint. Look at all the Anni only stuff, it'll be very hard to replace if necessary.

85k is still a lot considering it is only 3 years old - spending a bit more on another may save you money down the line in repair costs. What's it up for?

Plaque is easy, so long as it never had one originally because the dealer forgot to order it. Just head into them and ask them to order you one, takes around 28 days.

Wheels - out of warranty, I'd be very suprised if they do swap them, and you might get the cack silver ones instead of polished... get them re-furbed. look on the post called "calling all anni owners" further down.

Really? Is it re-mapped, 130/150 what?

My drive to work is an A-road at rush hour, so approx 30-40 and the odd stand-still and it's still around the 50 mark, get on the motorway and I'm easily up to 55 or so. To be fair, I very rarely take it above 3000rpm but I'm no slouch.

Craig,

I get 40-45 around town and over 50 on the A-roads and motorways on my 110TDI with Merc MAF.

Not got a remap but have the larger T4 van injectors installed.

There's a few on the Trader's web-site with 50k-ish for similar money, but you don't know how clean they are and if they're hiding anything? So with the warranty and service, all being well with the car, sounds ok.

Post some piccies up whenyou get the pride and joy.

what would you say was a fair price for an anni with 25k on and has
been serviced more than needed. nothing less than mint condition apart
from 1 small stone chip on bonnet.

just wont to know if i paid over odds.

comes from specialist dealer with 3 months warranty!
