Whilst looking around VW's web site I found a couple of things on the Golf options list which caught my eye:

1) Multi function indicator, highline (?45)

2) Radio system RCD 500, including front loading 6 disc autochanger with Volkswagen soundpack (?675)

Anyone now what these are? Do you get the RCD 500 in the GTI anyway and what's the 'soundpack'? Is the Multi function indicator used to control the various car setting via the multifunction display in the dash, or is it something else?

VW UK (http://www.vw.co.uk/new_cars/new_golf/options). No, I've not seem them before either but it's updated recently with the GTI options and I guess these two are new ones they added too.

Multi-Function Computer is

"The highline multifunction computer adds additional functionality to the current midline multifunction computer. Additional functionality includes:

- Language ? setting of the display language

- Unit settings ? choice of unit setting average speed (km/h, mph), consumption (l/gallon) and temperature (Celsius/Fahrenheit)

- Door opening ? setting for individual door opening, auto lock, auto unlock

- Coming/Leaving home-function ? setting of individual light timings

- Footwell illumination ? setting of brightness."

I would presume that this also means that it is the bigger screen as fitted with SatNav.

They have also taken off the following from the standard SE Spec cars:

Auto dim mirror

Comming home/leaving home lights

footwell lights

Auto headlights

Auto Wipers

all this now costs another ?95 [:(]

Does this mean, then, that the 1.6FSI SE that I ordered over six weeks ago now and had assumed were going to have these items as standard, won't now be fitted with them??[:(!]

Get on to your dealer asap to find out. If you want those items and are not getting them tell the dealer either to get your order changed or you will wait for another car to be built if you want the bits.

They are defo worth having, especially the dimming mirror.

VW really seem to be farting around with the spec a LOT for such a new car [V]

Have already contacted him and was greeted with a voice sounding despair. Said he would get back to me but, needless to say, he hasn't so far. There tends to be skeleton staff on Sundays and so I'll pop down to the garage tomorrow. I don't want to re-order at this stage as it's only about a fortnight away until my delivery. Looking at this more positively, however, omission of some of the above forementioned things means there is less to go wrong ie over-sensitive lights and wiper detectors which I've read about elsewhere.

As long as I get my MFC (midline) as standard I don't really mind that much although I'm a trifle annoyed at the manner of VW's indecisiveness as to what constitutes an 'SE' specification.[V]

There seems to have been an increase in spec to all models to include outside temp display. Also SE get midline computer as standard. I think the Coviniece pak has came about to make the Sport model sell better as they where more expensive but did not have these features and to get them you had to get either LUX pack 1 or 2 at either ?275 or ?180. Now they are only ?95.

Yes, I realise that I now get a 'free' midline MFC but I'm not sure whether I'll be getting those things that have now been put into that 'Inconvenience Pack' and which one has to pay for.

When I placed my order, weeks ago, they were standard fit!!! I asked for another new brochure from VW last week and that was dated October 2005 and it still persists in telling future buyers that the SE model has items in that pack as standard fit.

My car is being/has been assembled at this moment, presumably, and so I don't really know what I'm getting. At least as long as I get my sunroof and MFC I not that bothered now - I think that the whole thing is a complete farce and can't really believe that all this fiddling about with minutiae benefit VW production at all, or sales come to that. I mean, the dealers probably don't know what the car will have as standard unless they do a lot of research or contact Milton Keynes.

Apparently it passes on a ?35 saving to the customer according to VW

Chris

Wow!!! (no sarcasm intended).

I would rather have known what I was getting on my car, quite frankly.

Not sure if this helps but you can down load a price list from VW website with the revised spec and it was effective from 4/11/2004. I'm guessing your car was ordered before then so your car should be built to spec before the change was made.

Yes. I was thinking that my car aught to be built according to the spec. at the time the order was placed ie on or around 10th October, but who can tell with any certainty? Thanks for your input on this subject however, which will, hopefully, raise my spirits.
