fitted a oil pressure gauge yesterday and the gauge reads in psi 1-100just want to know what it should be running at when warm

tried it yesterday for a bit and it was averaging 20-25 psi at idle

does anyone know what it should be or is there a website for information on it

thanks matt

Thats Lincoln VW Parts department for you.

I know Matt747 sang their praises in another thread recently but, my experiences with both Parts and Service will mean I will never used them again, ever!

Good luck anyway, I hope you've got it sorted now.

In my experience, if you want to keep both eyes on the road, don't add gauges to the c ockpit. A prominent warning light at, say, 15psi would suffice.

I used to have an oil pressure gauge on my Chevette HS. It was the most distracting thing on the car, after the ever-present odour of burning oil!

oil light come on again yesterday, run around for about 20 minutes, pressure was about 18-20 psi then boot it and went upto about 40psi, and the light stil came on

got a new oil pressure switch on it, oil level is fine and doesnt use any, so it must but an electrical fault at a guess

That was after driving for about an hour so was proper warmed up.

oil temp was about 200?F.The oil pressure is on about 20 psi at idle and goes up to about 60 psi and stays there until the revs drop right back down.

I put Matt's car on VAG-COM and it did throw a couple of code but nothing to do with this problem.

As you only got this problem after something put a hole in your sump I can only assume that some of what ever made the hole has ended up in the engine and is blocking an oil way at some point.

Matt, you say you got 40psi with throttle but Mo is getting 60psi so you're well short of what he is getting. Perhaps it is the oil pump after all.

Might be worth scanning the car again to check for any more codes.

If that doesn't show anything then i'm not quite sure what you can do next.
