Im trying to work out what size socket is needed to remove the oil filter cap?

My friend insists its 32mm but on all american DIY guides it seems they use a 36mm, although there filter seems to be on the bottom of the engine where as us UK models have the filter on the top.

Also ive cracked my oil filter cap, how much are they from VW stealers, anyone know?

Thanks

Cheers £8.99 not too bad i suppose.

Question:
Stealers want £27 for the oil filter cap!!!!

Anyone know if i can find them anywhere else new? or does anyone know if one will fit from a 1.6 petrol engine??

Try TPS (Trade Parts Specialists) or Euro Car Parts for the filter cap.

What was the size of the socket at the end? what car have you got?, I am also after the socket, to do oil change on mine.

many thanks, have you done any diy oil changes on your car? i am considering doing, saw some stuff on y.tube and read that many members do it on their cars with oil extractors, so in the summer might give it a try.

Try a 36mm socket that is what I use on most diesel engines and if it's bigger than that I use a pair of adjustable waterpump pliers with a cloth so it doesn't damage the plastic cap.
