Hi Peeps,

I have had a look through the TDi side of the forum and can't find the answer. I have a 110bhp gttdi 2001 on 133k miles. Can anyone advise which oil is best please for a full change. I'm not sure if it's a PD or not sorry [:(]

just go to vw and they'll give you the correct oil and filter for your car not that expensive either

Good idea, thanks for that, will pop over tomorrow. Thanks for your help
No worries, I know at my local one JCB Volkswagen in Ashford they offer a loyalty card maybe there is one at your local? can get it cheaper then?

'Best Oil' well that would be any oil that has the VW 507.00 rating printed on the bottle.

Prices can vary hugely, so best call/shop around.

Most places like Halfords will sell various VW507 oils for about £45-50 for 5litres (which is enough for an oil change).

My local TPS VW parts dealers sells VW Quantum 507 oil for £29 for 5litres, which is the cheapest I've found
VW have been doing the oil for £23 at my local dealer that is for long life PD oil, Thats far cheaper than GSF etc.
you don't need the longlife oil in a PD

servicing should be every 10k unless you want cam wear...

for PD oil from VW i paid £25 for 5l of quantum
OP's car is a 110 TDI so not a PD engine. Regardless, the latest spec oil (backwards compatible) is VW504/507 - 5w 30 and this would be good. Or an oil spec from back when the car was produced would be VW505.00 and 5w 40 spec I seem to recall. Or you could go for an oil in between such as VW505.01 - 5w 40.

However, personally I'd go with the longlife oil which is VW504/507 - 5w 30, and available from the dealers as pointed out up above. It doesn't cost much more than an inferior oil so why not?
The long life oil will aid turbo lubrication though[:|]
Exactly that

VW507.00 is the latest oil, and it saves from confusion (in my eyes anyway), as it's fully compatible with everything mk4 based, petrol, diesel, turbo, PD, R32 wotever.

And it isn't expensive to buy if you look in the right places
We picked up 5L of 5W-30 (quantum 504/507 spec) from ebay for £30 delivered. cant be robbed for that!
So 5W-30 507 spec is the stuff to go for?
