on way to work this evening sitting on mway with cruise on at about 75 i hit a hill and the car went all limp and lost its ooomph seams to rev ok no warning lights came on or anything it still crep to 80 mph any ideas. or shall i just take it into the stealers in the morning ? btw its a gt tdi 115 with superchip 2000 model just had major service recently

Possibly over boosting caused 'limp' mode to kick in. Prevents engine damage from overboost but resets when you turn ignition off/on.

I'm sure overboosting would throw a code so I think hooking it up to VAG-COM would be a good idea.

bugger did it on way home too phoned a stealer and he says i cant test iot properly its illegal to go over 70 mph and the computer dosnt always show a fault. any one know a reasonable specialist local to me worthing or brighton ?

to update ive got it booked in at caffyns portslade monday bloke seamed very vague [!] anyhow i was wandering would it be worth me changing the maf and airfilter before hand i could proberly get these tommorow from a factors ???????????????

If the rev's were still rising yet you were getting no power, could it not be a slipping clutch? Has the symptoms of one.

thanx but no it wasnt slipping clutch the revs wernt rising i have no turbo experiance at all but i guess it was like the turbo shut down the car was still drivable just lost its oooomph

i got the same journey tonight so ill post what happens

One of the girls at work has exactly the same fault on hers. Posted this on engine forum. She'd get to 75-80mph and turbo cuts out. She then has to restart it to get turbo working again. Dealer couldn't find a fault on two occasions & wouldn't take it over 70mph. Replaced intercooler hose but still doing it. To this date after three visits still has fault. []

i would go with the limp mode myself. it sounds like the car needed more power to make the hill and overboosted and limp mode kicked in.

Try cruising in 4th/5th at the same revs as you would be doing in 6th at 75. See if the problem happens then.

on way home at 4am this morning was just thinking its not done it perhaps its got somthing to do with cruise control and it went all limp again [] quick flick on and off with key and it was like new again

sounds very simiar to my thread and whats happened to me lately!!! i put my foot down and the car went into limp mode... turbo would not engage at all in any gear or at any speed and wouldnt go over 70 mph and would not rev any higher than 2300 rpm!!!

no idea whats wrong but i turned it off got out... walked around car got back in and car worked fine!!!!!

very frustrating!!! im going to replace my MAF this weekend!!! no messing about the garage who deals with my warranty company told me that he could check it and still wont find anything and you will be ?35-40 out of pocket.... but he then said ive two passats with similar problems in the last week or so none of them threw up any codes but we changed the MAF and it has sorted it!!!
