Right, the weather was nice today so I thought id get the front valance
on. Very easy to get the old one off and just as easy to push the new
one in ... didnt take more than half hour (because I did it carefully
with many drinks in between ). Piccy below ...
Also delocked the car while I was at it ... luckily screw didnt drop in
either door so it didnt take more than 5 minutes a door. VERY easy to
do. Was very suprised to see the screw-driver-type head at the end of
the lock no wonder every mk4 should be delocked !!
The lock mechanism taken out (how unsafe is that !!!! )
Looking good. The screw thing is for the tow eye. It's in the boot and you screw it in that hole if you ever need to be toed. The thing behind the bumper is the radiator, when you have seen something shiny behind the bumper are you thinking of a front mounted intercooler on turbo cars?
Thanks Simon. Nah you couldnt have seen it anywhere else, totally unique here !! loll
nope, always had a valance on ... I did notice the great big hold in
the wheel arch liner lol but dont think it will be a huge problem. Did
you end up replacing your liners then or have you just skipped the
1) I don't think that you need to worry about this mate? I certainly didn't put anything in there or worried about it when I fitted it? Must just be how they made the tool for the spoiler?
2) You are indeed a screw short of a spoiler and it is very important that you have two per side otherwsie it won't clamp straight. I am sure you can source a replacement down your local hardware store though mate? Pop down and have a look? Where did you get your Oettinger Kit from in the end? If your bit's missing then ask the seller where they are!! I got some instructions with my kit, didn't you?
Simon : Thanks for 1 and 2. I sourced the kit privately so I
know the seller wont accept responsibility for missing parts as he'll
say I should of checked everything was there (although I didnt even
know what fittings I was supposed to get!). I'll find out locally if I
can get a similar screw, I thought it was a special one with a flat
base on the head, but now that I think about it, it shouldnt be hard to
get hold of in my local B&Q superstore foe example. Thanks for the
sonny : Thanks mate ... compares nothing to yours !! But its certainly looking better than before
Got the spoiler on ... kind of. I got screw made by one of my
neighbours whos good with DIY stuff and has small workshop in his
garage. He did a v good job at matching the original screws and I was
very pleased. That was all fine, until I came to clamp the spoiler on.
The threads in one of the holes has totally finished and the screw
keeps spinning inside the hole !!! This is the original screw btw, so
its not the new one ruining the hold. So, now I dont know what to do as
3 screws are fine but one of them is useless and isnt working. Pics
spolier clamped on using non-slip material.
That damned hole which the screw just keeps on spinning in [:'(]
Any suggestions on what I should do ? I was thinking of winding the
screw with thread (literally, sewing thread) and trying to get it to go
in. Its stupid, the threads are moulded into the woo-dlike material
theyre bound to wear away at some point !!
