Im always thinking Carl [;)]

NOS Racing Formula states "Increases octane effect by as much as 7 points". Now considering this is ?19.99 I can't seem to understand why when its increasing octane by less than 1 RON (going by 10pts = 1 RON).
Millers CVL Turbo advertises that it increases octane levels by up to 4 RON which would be 40 points.
I just find it strange that a bottle of CVL Turbo (?7.50) can raise octane levels over 5 times more than NOS Racing Formula (?19.99).

Unless of course 1 point was equal to 1 RON?

Mosts octane boosters in a can/bootle do not not up the octane reading
they basically change the knock... or the sound of the knock so as to
fool the knock sensors.... check out the skylines forum loads of info
on it.

The best way to expain it is look how much toluene will up your octane
reading.... it takes a alot .5 litre a tank to to get 3 points.... how
can a 250 ml bottle of millers etc do it? plus have you seen how muc
ethanol/toluene cost?

Same as you Andy, just public forums. I've only got 6100 ish now though.
I don't post nearly as much as I used to as there are minimal topics which catch my attention now.

NOS Racing Formula doesn't seem to perform too badly when compared to Toluene.

Test review of both 91 pump gas (US), NOS Racing Formula and Toluene

Shell 91 pump gas (US) + NOS Racing Formula = 98.7ron, 93.7 (ron+mon)/2
Shell 91 pump gas with a homebrew Toluene mix = 96ron, 91.4 (ron+mon)/2

Shell 91 pump gas + 10% Toluene = 97.3ron, 92.9 (ron+mon)/2
Shell 91 pump gas + 20% Toluene = 99 ron, 94.1 (ron+mon)/2

So unless you're willing (and able to source) to add 20% Toluene it seems that NOS Racing Forumla actually performs better, even at 20% its that close theres probably nothing in it.

Gary,

I think this is a case of terminology difference between the uk and the US, NOS being a US product, I think that they mean by 'increases octane effect by as much as 7 Points' ( quote from the bottle) that they are inn fact talking about the actual Octane Rating i.e it should read 70 Points, I have seen this here ( actually is 60 Points on here but I think that they increased it somewhere along the line to 70)

http://www.permatex.com/products/automotive/maintenance_performance/octane_boosters/NOS_Octane_Booster_Racing_Formula.htm

and given its ?20 / Bottle it should be pretty good stuff. There is also another brew called Nitrous Formula which can be added at varying concentrations to get different increases, believe the Scooby boys swear by this stuff, given that they can go into detonation if you so much a sneeze near them.

If you want it cheaper, this guy sells it on ebay for ?14.99 delivered

The difference in terminology is also my thinking, they have to be talking of RON levels when they mention an increase of up to 7 points.

13 litres of Optimax, 8 litres of Ultimate, 10 bottles of NOS Racing Formula and 7 bottles of CVL Turbo [:p]

Probably Optimax and a bottle of NOS Racing Formula.
