I don't want to get into the VW badging discrepencys but all PD150's ARE GTI's. My PD150 came with a GTI badge. The TDI badge is european and should be changed by the dealer to a GTI badge when it arrives at the dealership. Some weren't changed and some, like mine, were changed back to a TDI badge by it's owner after it left the showroom.

Proper GTIs have always been petrol. If its badged as a GTI then it badged incorrectly, I just asked the local VW dealership! :)

Yes I suppose this is true, not familiar with the term GTI TDI, would have thought GT TDI was the correct description. Im sure on the V5 it would be GT TDI 150 in his case. IMO diesels should be badged TDI not GTI.

The PD150 we have in our fleet at work is badged GTi and is full GTi spec with the same Montreal II alloys, sports interior, brakes etc. "Rhemmingway" user on here also has a PD150 that is in full GTi trim. Its how they came from the factory! I know some PD150s exist that are badged TDI (all in red) but they came later. Also to be fair a standard GTi 1.8t 150 is not as fast as a standard PD150 in the mid range. We've done the tests at work :)

Hmm.. that auction has been won by someone from Singapore who has no feedback and has chosen to make his non existent feedback private.

Dodgy ? Sounds it to me !

Definitely dodgy as a you can't currently own a diesel car in Singapore! Only taxis and other commericials are permitted to run on diesel.

Ive just been told that all Red TDI were badged GTredI in order to make them more appealing, fooling the diesel owner into thinking they were buying into VW Gti turf. The fact is they were badged GTredI by the dealers, and not by VW. VW's official line is that they are all red TDI, with the same spec as a GTI.

Besides, the "I" in GTI stands for "injection", as in "Petrol Injection".....thats why the term GT TDI is much more fitting.

Gees if some of you are arguing that the Diesel is faster then the GTI, why spend all that time and money downgrading your car by badging it a GTI?...

....hmmm maybe ill badge my GTI as a TDI and get more respect out on the street.

My car also badged GTI (red I), the brochure for 2003/2004 lists the 150PD as a GTI and in my opinion it shouldn't make any difference what engine it has so long as it has the relevant performance. I am proud to own a GTI and very proud it is a diesel, I chose to put the all red TDI badge on but if any one asks i have a Golf GTI 150PD.

Having owned both petrol and diesel I have to say I prefer the sound of petrol (obviously)from outside but love the torque and economy offered from the TDI. If we are all totally honest neither petrol or diesel are true GTI's in standard form (except maybe the Anni) so the discussion then becomes irrelevant. Be proud of your car and badge it however you like [:D]

As far as the badge issue goes, my friends girlfriend has a company car which is a PD150 Golf.

It came as new badged as GTI. I'm sure a lease company wouldn't be worried about making the car look more attractive to buyers??. After all, no one saw the car before it was delivered to her.

I should add that the badge is all silver too.. and it's not an Anni.
