Collecting the car from the spray shop in the next couple of days.

Honestly, I split one of my OEM xenons, was painful. Factor in the brittle rear back replacement and your looking at £250 if you can actually source them!
As said, after a couple of beers the VXTuning LEDs were purchased. Feb 23 delivery! I'll be gutted if they are anything less than spectacular.

Two new rear wheel bearings, discs and pads yesterday. Toprans lasted reasonably well given their price. No water ingress, just 1mm of wobble (both - no noise). Interesting offside brake caliper had 'jammed' wearing the inner pad to zero.
Both calipers sliding perfectly and still nicely greased, so a little confused by that.
Febi nearside bearing fitted, Meyle offside (ordered Meyle for both but hey ho).
Pulled a nail from nearside tyre when rebuilding, promptly dumped it's air. So fitted two Goodyear F1 AS6s to the rear (had in the garage ready for wheel refurb).

The discs are high carbon coated, so will be interesting if they corrode.

Fitting front number plate today after running a front window plate for a month or so.

Oh and it was a bonus the old bearings slid off the stub axle without leaving a stuck shell. Was expecting to be heating/grinding at least one of them off!

discs will corrode as soon that carbon coating is worn off... i had it on my discs on my daily the holes and slots are still rust free not the flat surfaces as soon as they get wet they'll show some corrosion but it's off immediately after a drive.

that said the rear caliper probably wasn't being held in place right with that clip otherwise it wouldn't jam i've had that before... on both the daily and the now retired mk4 golf.

Any sign of those VX tuning headlights ?
Funny you should say that, been chasing them. They are saying 'soon' and are apologising profusely. Issue with supply of parts.

Off to a place just south of Norwich tomorrow to pick up 4 x 16" steelies (fitted with 4 brand new Rainsport 5 tyres). These will enable me to refurb the BBS RCs and keep the car on the road. Then they will become a useful set of winters.

My better half is complaining, "you can't leave them on the car all winter" (steelies).

I think she just likes the car attention she is increasingly picking up.

ED30 drove perfectly today, 257mls return trip, nice conditions.

Think I am going to clean and paint the wheels before fitting. Adhesion promoter and nice matt black enamel rattle cans should stop them rusting.

Very impressed with them, as new condition (y)

These were going to be purely functional items, now you got me thinking!
Really tempted to do something special with them, but I have a list of jobs as long as my arm (not car related) 😂

Will look into costs and somewhere nearby that might band them. Sort of defeats the object of getting these with good tyres... hmmm.

👍

BTW wheels and tyres cost £250 + collection costs.

You can always do that at a later date... use them for the purpose you got them for.. than on a later date when they are off the car and would be in storage get them banded, etc... last time I had a set banded it was 60 pounds per wheel... probably a bit more expensive now, but that also included them being powder coated.

here is a company that's been doing this for years... and guess what they have a price guide on there and can be contacted

I also ordered a pair of VX Tuning headlights back in late September, chased them up recently and they explained that one of the key parts is on backorder and was supposed to arrive in Feb but the supplier is now saying the first week of April. Apparently most 2022 orders should be fulfilled by May so I suppose we'll just have to wait and see. Very interested to see what they turn out like. Was planning on fabricating my own but I've been a bit too busy with Uni and having to move house so I'd rather pay a premium for someone else to do it.
