ugh get rid of the type letters and than the bum will be looking a lot smoother, i hate the type letters the logo not so much but those letters wouldn't be on it long if that was my car, especially if i went all the way to remove the tips to make the r-line rear bumper look smooth, that hatch would be stripped from it's letters as soon as i finished putting the no cut-out insert on.... but that is me.

I actually like the type letters. Some things I would feel bad about removing now, 23 years old, been there for the long ride.

Next job is paint work, you can see the bubbling starting around the rear hatch handle. I have a new R32 front bumper in the garage and the old grille. It's going to be a standard R32 front, probably losing the lower plastic splitter.
Wheels to be refurbed and new Goodyear AS5s.

I will also be sorting the front jacking points.

I seem to have got my Golf mojo back at the moment.

Well, he comes a big refresh for the mk4.

Tyres in hand, 4 x F1 Assymetric 6
Wheels to be refurbed imminently.
New R32 front being sprayed / fitted (had in loft of garage for 3 years).
Original grille being fitted.
Rear Rline being sprayed.
Rear boot handle being sorted.
Jacking points (front) being pulled out and fixed.

Probably new brake pads as the current basic Pagids are so dusty.

Pics over the coming weeks :)

OMG I took one of my xenons apart last night, what an utter ball ache. There was a lot of junk floating about inside, the lense was cloudy and it needs a new wiring assembly. Like everyone, I tried to remove some marks from the mirror finish xenon housing and the finish rubbed off.
The wiring assembly cannot be replaced without splitting, so after 3 hours (2 hours careful) of destroying the casing I got it split.
I have someone that can re mirror finish the xenon housing ring.
Just asking the sellers below if they have a left and a right assembly (need left) but going to replace both as the plastic is so brittle.

These xenons I put away in a box several years ago, thinking they were trash. Having Dremeled quite a bit of material off the housing to remove the glass I need to assess whether a bead of sealant will suffice to reseal.

The reality is, without splitting they were going in the bin as the lense is/was so cloudy light output was terrible even with XenARCs.

It seems right 1J1941608H is easy to get.
1J1941607M (left) is much tougher to find at a sensible price.

The pic actually looks a lot worse than it really is, this pic was also before I tidied up the edge.

Petrol/T-cut/clayed the whole car yesterday ready for paint in a few weeks. Paintwork is amazing for the age.

Found my boot leak, nearside rear light inner nut had backed off on the threaded post, so the rear light was actually flapping a little. Anyway removed both rear lights, cleaned and replaced.

So, progress.

Looking at headlight glass lenses, seems China/Bulgaria is my only option... unsure of quality.

Spent the whole weekend and last night cleaning the car within an inch of it's life.

Wash/TFR -> Petrol -> TCut -> Petrol -> Clay -> Wash

The body work was smoother than smooth, ready for paint in a couple of weeks.

Anyway, got emergency phone call from my better half this afternoon. They are spraying paint on a high rise nearby.
The whole car park of cars (solicitors) was covered in it. The managing partner has a new Disco in black... well lets just say it's totally speckled now.

Sadly, the mk4 copped for it too (not as bad as the Disco).

So, the litigation department are mobilised.

I've spent all night getting the worst of it off after taking pics and a video.

To say I'm rather annoyed is an understatement.

The only issue I see with the LED GEN2 is the city/DRL lights, I will need to get them to stop illuminating both amber turns at the same time as the inner lamp.
In the UK it seems an MOT tester will fail amber turns if the opposite side does not extinguish when the other is indicating (sounds sensible to me).

I must be mad, dropped some cash on a set of VXT Gen 2's. Feb delivery.

I guess my eBay sales might offset a little, 1 x xenon and a genuine R32 front bumper (debadged).

Jacking point correction next week, paint beginning of Nov.

oww someone is spending some money on his ride! nothing wrong with that and you should recover some if you sell that lot... that said you do know that you could've easily made those lights yourself at about half the asking price? I spotted that the led projectors used are being sold on aliexpress for a decent price... just split, unbolt old, bolt in new, seal up done... But I get it's way easier to buy them that way, as the lens should have the type approval for LED on it or at least on paper so you can keep it in the glovebox... why you ask ? if they don't it might be a MOT fail... yes the lens needs to carry the type approval for the bulbs used, deviation of another type bulb is not allowed anymore. So you'll need something that states they are made for LED.

Yeah, the VXtuning LEDs are extravagant! Looking at reconditioning the OEMs was going to cost me £250+ for the mirror coating and rear carriers, which still gave me the resealed look with hours of effort. Also the offside rear carrier sourcing was nearly impossible, everyone had the nearside, so I was giving up :(

Three beers later and 'buy now' was pressed. Feeling like a guilty pleasure.

My MOT tester is sympathetic, not lax, so I think the will approve of the LEDs as long as the cutoff is good.

Well, car has gone in for paint. New front bumper, wings, R-Line rear bumper and hatch (full touch up).

Looking forward to seeing the result, fingers crossed!

On another note, I've bought a motorhome 🤣

Super interested in seeing what those VX tuning lights turn out to be like.

Been following them for a few years on vwvortex

, have wondered if they could indeed make a set that would be plug and play as a replacement for UK xenon equipped cars (Ie R32), as they seem to only make direct replacements for halogen equipped cars.

The xenon lights on the MK4 R32 are now very dated, and output severely lacking compared to modern cars, Ive got a spare set of xenon headlamps that I got in preparation to split and upgrade the projectors , but I just don't have any spare time nowadays to tinker !

Let us know how the lights turn out to be noo
