Interesting point, and duely noted....
As a bit of background, the VW telephone prep was sold to me by the dealer as having a ton of great functionality. The first and foremost of which was the capability to make and receive calls from the indicator stalks on the drivers console, in conjunction with the on board computer display of the MFD-II. ie The on board computer would read the memory of the phone and/or the SIM and display the contact telephone numbers stored within.
This was frankly a load of rubbish !!!
In reality all the telephone prep does is exactly what it says on the tin... 'Pre-wiring preparation for the ariel, mic and audio'
To make it work with a phone, you have to buy a cradle at an extra cost of ?150. Once fitted, all the kit does is allow handsfree conversation after the stereo mutes when the phone rings... GREAT!
I am told the European version of the telephone kit does what the dealer told me, but this apparently is not an option in the UK, and hence why the telephone menu does not appear in the drop down list on the MFD-II.
Bearing in mind that the telephone prep was ?250 + the cradle ?150... That makes it a ?400 car phone...
If the VW kit did what I was told it could do, I wouldn't mind, but ?400 quid for the same functionality as a standard Nokia kit albeit a bit nicer looking is simply a joke as the Nokia kit is sub ?100 fitted...
I have complained to VW, and received an ?100 compensation cheque, but I am more annoyed by the fact that the dashboard has now been drilled, making it pointless to go and have a bluetooth kit fitted and leave the cradle redundant.
In an ideal world, the 6230i would work with the VW kit, you would be able to make and receive calls from the console and if you changed your phone, you change the cradle.... Simple! Not for VW or Nokia!
In my opinion, VW sales staff are not well enough informed by their employers... If they had been, I wouldn't be in this mess...
Sorry for the rant, I just don't wany anyone else to fall foul of this problem.
