Hi, just noticed about thread about the annoying seat belt warning, I don't have one, I am guessing turning it off switches off the beep, but I don't get the light on the dashboard either, (or is that included with switching it off?), so do I need to speak to my dearler?

Be thankfull that you don't have it, I would love to turn mine off!

I always wear a seatbelt and make sure my passengers do but I don't need an annoying beep the second I sit down to remind me! It's very annoying when I reverse out of my to swap cars around or just when washing it.

It will not beep if you put your belt on before starting your engine.

We have Euro ncap to thank for this as they are giving an extra point (not a * but a point towards a *) for fitting seatbelt warning buzzers to front seats.

There are two ways to disable the warning:

1)Unlpug the connector under the seat

2) use VAG-COM and do the following

Go to 'Instruments' - 17

Then 'Recode' - 7

To turn off the seatbelt warning minus 2 from the 4th digit, so I changed to 4th digit from a 7 to a 5.

If anyone wants it done who passes Warwickshire just PM or Email me.

I think we've been over this before but is it not risky to unplug any conenctors under the seat?

If there is an accident it may be that airbags do not employ if the car thinks there is no-one in the seat?

I certainly would rather live with the "ping" than take any risks!

I'll second that - just get into the habit of clipping the belt in before turning the key

The point is that as a grown adult I'm perfectly capable of remembering to put on a seat belt with being assaulted with the most annoying ping bullying me into doing so.

Get in car - turn on ignition - ping - groan - grab CD case from other side of car - ping - bastard - ping - ok I'm doing it! - ping - I'm reaching! - ping - click - phew!

Mine's an 05 car and starts pinging as soon as you stick the key in the ignition (and turn to just before you start it), one annoying thing is it pings when you reverse too, which is really annoying especially when you're reversing down a long driveway! You don't have to go very fast reversing either!
