No mistake, I think the V5 sounds great. The only reason I can think is that it's not as "tunable" at the 1.8T. Nice engines IMO.

I would agree with that. You can easily tune the 170bhp upto about 190bhp with a remap and exhaust but after that the options are limited and expensive.

Again welcome to the forum, from yet another V5 onwer.

At this rate, with the number of V5 owners looking for performance upgrades, it looks like we could try and run a GB on the V5 turbo option and make a good saving [:D].

After 3 golfs i decided to buy my V5, have owned it for just over a month and love it, certainly the best car i ve owned in terms of build and driving pleasure at 170 bhp i dont find it super quick but the delivery is smooth and swift and i would certainly buy the same car again. I was kinda lookin for a 1.8T mainly because of price but this one came along at the right price, 1 owner,3dr silver, 51 plate full heated leather etc etc and showing 34k. to me its like a new car, its a car (and its only golfs in my opinion that do this) that begs to be driven, i almost look forward to driving into work.

hope everyones enjoying theirs?

hey there, 1 more v5 owner, but a 150 v5 bora [:)]

rfsteel, hoooooooooooooold up, whats this about a v5 turbo????? [:D]

i've been thinking about this for a while but whats was holding me back was the FWD. if vw had been as generous with the 4motion floorpans as they were in germany over here i'd go for it!

i love mine, no probs with it so far, touch wood, and i adore the sound it makes - and the way the v5 badge makes it look so cool [;)]

You heard me right [:D]

We have a recent member that has joined us from Sweden that has done a turbo conversion on his V5 150bhp.

This is his only post so far, so the information I/we know at the moment is very limited.

holy cow, i wonder if his is a fwd version? saying that, 300bhp to the front wheels is asking for a share in rubber supplies.

a 12 second 1/4mile is an awesome figure though which makes me think it has to be a 4motion.

a porsche killing bora... hahaha.

thanks for bringing that post to my attention mate!

I'm new to this forum (and to the V5 170bhp) and am pleased to see so many with the 5 cylinder model. The VWVortex site doesn't have anything on this - so perhaps it wasn't shipped to North America. I've ordered X5 Xenon conversion kit for the low beams, modded the rear extra fog (as per this forum) and put light covers on (taking advice from this forum again). I really want the Neuspeed rear sway bar ... after test driving the Golf Mk5 2000 manual - it is a lot stiffer and more accurate in the steering and really fun [and safe] to push hard. The V5 isn't bad but it can get a little scary using the tiptronic.

Cheers ... Peter
