Hi, has anyone drove in one of these? my brother wants to buy one and seeing as its ~14000? second hand atm, would it be better for him to buy a second hand mkiv GTTDI? i think hes set on the polo, followed by turbo back exhaust, clutch n remap. so he should see figures of 180bhp or so right?

I think a remap and exhaust should give about 175+bhp.

How about a pd130 ibiza for less money or even a pd160 cupra?

The cupra has too high insurance group (hes only 19) tho im sure he would jump at the chance. the 130ibiza is a possibility, so is the skoda fabia vrs. it all depends on the test drive and what he could see himself in really. wot kind of times do you think he would be running with the mods?

I have had two Polo's and although i like them a lot i wouldn't pay the amount of money they want for a GT,they are too expensive. The Fabia is the better package for the money imo, provided your not a badge snob like me.

lol, he is a bit mental, wants to compete with me and my golf! the only against for the fabia is the badge so thats why he wants the polo! going to the stealers later on see if he can pick an ex demo or something second hand! will give you a run down on what is there!

When I was 18, I spent ?750 on a beige Mk2 Ford Escort. I thought that was a lot of money (back in 1989)[:$]

Oh God so did I. A 1.3 popular 3 door, FYN 256V if I remember correctly. Great for getting the back out around damp roundabouts not so great for pulling the girls [:(]

Different front and rear bumpers I think - very similar to those of the cupra.

He should get a Fabia vRS.

Haggle hard with a dealer or go to drivethedeal.com and you can get a fully loaded one (metallic, xenons, 6cd, heated seats etc) for ?12.5k BRAND NEW!

Far better value than a year old Polo for ?14k!

It doesn't feel any cheaper inside than a Polo (which is a severe disappointment if you're used to a mkIV Golf!) and it's bigger inside and looks better outside.

Deffo best thing to do is go and at least sit in them both.

When SWMBO was looking for her new car the short list was down to a new Ibiza Sport 1.4 (~?9k) or a 2nd hand Polo Sport (~?9k), or a brand new Fabia vRS (~?12k).

The Fabia was bottom of the list because of it's price and Ibiza was top because of the 0% finance they were doing....... until we went to look at one! It was cheap and nasty inside. Cheap looking design and even cheaper feeling plastics. Felt like you would be scared to use it incase bits came off in your hand!

So we went to view a Polo (a 100bhp TDI Sport) and liked it. We almost bought it but decided to go and look at a Fabia just to make sure it wasn't worth the extra money.

Within half a mile of the test drive in the Fabia the missus decided she wanted it. Becasue it was new it meant we could take the finance out over a longer period than the Polo so it costs us just the same per month as the Polo would have but we've got a brand new car.

The thing about the Fabia is it feels special inside. The silver dials, leather wheel, aluminium pedals and fancy seats make it feel nice to be in.

To be honest I think the Fabia is a far nicer looking car than the Ibiza. I always think the Fabia looks like it could be the Audi A2 if they had not decided to go all space age! The Ibiza I think looks too fussy and always looks under wheeled. But thats all personal opinions I guess.

The best thing I can say about the Fabia is that it is so good, I am considering replacing my Golf with one!
