Hi all - New member would be grateful for some help on a small matter! I am soon to be the proud owner of a black 3 door Mk5 GTI which I have been "told" will be with me by no later than the end of March. In the mean time the garage has given me a Mk5 FSI to play with. I am wanting to know what the difference is between the computers in both of these cars?? I thought the GTI computer (the one between the 2 speed dials) had the outline of the car telling you of any probs with the motor??!! Is this not the case??

I think the one with the outline of the car is called the 'Highline' computer. This is a ?45 option or comes with factory fitted Sat Nav. Most of the Golf range comes as standard with the Mid-Line computer which is half height - I think VW is confusing everyone because it's brochures for the Golf show pictures of highline computers without mentioning that they're additional cost options.

Gutted! Thought the GTI would come as standard with a better version computer than the rest of the Golf range mind! I test drove a GTI a while ago which had one in so i just presumed it was standard. Does anyone know if you can add to a order cause i sort of fancy the armrest too now!!!???

I added the Highline comp to mine well after I placed my order with no problems at all. Defo worth the extra 45 quid - 1)you can set various options on the car 2) If you add Sat-nav it will use it 3) It looks loads better! You should really get the armrest too. It's very handy and would look really wrong without it and means you can add the CD multi changer at a later date if you want. Both these should be standard IMO.

If you are expecting the car by the end of March I doubt you could change now as it is probably being built or about to be. Won't hurt to phone your dealer and ask. Worth asking to delay your order if you really want these items.

Just spoke to the dealer and they said they had good and bad news for me...Bad news is that the armrest and highline computer cant be fitted...good news is cause I will get the motor next week!!!! Getting excited now! Bit sick though that the sales guy said that in the future if i wanted to fit a armrest it will cost me about 800 quid due to the massive job it is! Reckons they have to take half the dash out etc to fit one! Really wanted the highline computer too!!

Congrats on the new car! Commiserations on the Armrest... I'm sure given a few months or so, someone in the world will come out with retrofit instructions like they did for the MkIV.

When did you order? I ordered a couple weeks ago and the dealer said that it's was looking like June for delivery [:(]

Also I noticed that the head lights on some Golf's have a black surround to the headlight reflectors and others like my own have silver, any ideas why???

Ones with dark lights are early cars - I prefer the later ones [8D]

I would have thought that the arm rest could be easily retrofitted and there is no way that half the dash has to come out. Mine is like a large box which houses the cd changer too and feels quite loose as though it is screwed down with just 1 screw. i checked another in the showroom and that was the same.

somebody was doing a retrofit about 5 months ago(im searching?).sure it was about 250, only problem was getting the vent pipes from the front to the rear.no problem if you dont want hot or cold air out the vents cus they said this was the hardest part!!

BTW Marco - whats the 2.0 FSI like to drive? I pick mine up next week but have not yet driven one (I know it sounds daft but there you are)!

Think Marco is getting a GTI with turbo charged FSI engine, not the same as the 2.0FSI engine in the GT.

I have the 1.6FSI engine and think it is really good, I'm sure the 2.0 will be a similar beast but better.

Ken, thanks, it should be a nice engine then with an extra 35PS over the 1.6 FSI and at the end of the day its got 50% more power than my current Mk 4 - I asked the question as Marco said the dealer had given him an FSI to drive while he waits for the GTI to arrive (rather generous of them!) and wondered what he thought of it if it is indeed the 2.0 version.

The car they gave me to drive they said was a 115bhp 1.6 FSI. It was the salemans car!! Quite a nice ride really, feels a bit like driving a people carrier or something though! (Been used to driving a 2 seater motor!) Just cant wait to get my hands on the GTI. Went for black 3 door with option leather and metallic paint. Going to speak to the sales guy today again though cause i want to know when we could get these extras options - highline and armrest fitted!!??

I would guess the highline computer option is going to mean a new dashpod as a retro fit but the armrest is not too bad an option as a VAGparts DIY project provided you can live without the air coming through the vents.
